We arrived at 1pm on a Saturday and were greeted, seated, and served our food quickly. We got the Italian and chicken parm subs. Both were fantastic!! Delicious complex flavors for a sandwich. We were very impressed and couldn’t stop talking about it. I’m surprised to see such low reviews. Three of us split two full subs and it was the perfect amount of food.

It’s insane how poor the service model is. You order at the screens by the entrance and when the food is ready, they call your number. You would think it’s straight forward, but the food takes a full hour to make (even on a Wednesday night). There are four service staff but they most of them seem under utilized and are unable to make themselves useful. The only things they are capable of doing is bussing the table, making drinks, and yelling out numbers. They are unable to troubleshoot any issues or proactively help their customers.

Finally, what really made me mad was a poor experience I had picking up take out! I ordered via Toast at 6:35 for pick up at 7. I got there right at 7 and waited around for twenty minutes and over time asked each of the four service staff for status on my order. They didn’t look in the kitchen for my ticket or even take a look at my receipt, just telling me to wait a few more minutes. I was number 167 and they were calling out numbers in the 180s and they were acting like my order being 20 minutes late was no big deal. I’m visibly waiting for an extended period of time and the staff is literally avoiding eye contact with me.

Finally, at 7:30, I stood by the kitchen door and I pointedly ask the guy whose sole job seems to be yelling out numbers to help me find my order. He is genuinely dumbfounded and has no idea what to do. Finally, I catch a woman walking out from the kitchen to help me and she admits they likely gave away my order to a DoorDash person and offer to remake my order. Ten minutes later, she gives me my food and says sorry it took so long. My food should have been ready at 7:00. I didn’t get it until 7:45. They need to retrain their service staff bc this experience was abysmal.

Absolutely MASSIVE sandwiches, I got the Italian Grinder WITH extra provolone and it only came out to $20 or so after tax. Sandwich was super tasty! No wait for seats, lots of open bar space, and open pool tables as well. Staff was very friendly and made sure I was taken care of.

I gotta come back for happy hour, as it’s $5 beers!

Would absolutely recommend. Come hungry! (Review made 9/5/25 at 4:15 PM)

These are the BEST sandwiches in DC! Food alone would give this place 5 stars. But the bar sucks. The wine is gross and cheap and I really wish they had drinks worth staying for. Still worth carrying out. Bub and Pops, get better wine and bartenders!

Still my favorite sandwich spot in DC! Just tried out the new location for the first time, and I will be a regular here. Truly the value you get with this enormous, fresh, delicious sandwich is unmatched. Got the Italian hoagie and it was as good as ever. The new space is also huge — inside and outside. Service was super friendly and quick!

Not a lot of places doing it like Bub and Pop’s in DC, especially during a trying time for DC restaurants. Support local!

Typically, I hesitate to leave a negative review for a small business, as I respond to reviews for small businesses. Still, the leadership team at this establishment should be aware.

I live in NoMa and have ordered cheesesteaks from here twice before, but the bread is not toasted, so the sandwich quickly gets soggy. There is no online option to request toasted bread, so I walked over (passing five sandwich shops) to B&P to place a takeout order. I inquired with the very polite hostess, and she thought that the option to have bread toasted was on the kiosk. But I told her it wasn’t. She looked and could not find it. Then she spoke to another hostess, who told me the chef would probably not do it, but she would ask. So she goes in the back and asks the chef, and he refused to toast the bread.

This is the insanity. How is a business that sells sandwiches – known for sandwiches –  and you refuse to toast the bread? ‍♀️ As basic as Subway is, they toast their bread. So I was going to proceed with the order, although the hostess was adamant that he would not toast the bread. So I asked if I could get the bread on the side. Then I thought about it, there are so many options within walking distance to entertain this foolishness at B&P.

There was an establishment directly across the street, and as it is Thursday, at the African stand at the 3rd St farmers market, they toast their sandwich bread. The area is not lacking hoagie options. So I opted not to place an order at B&P, walked less than five minutes away, and ordered a DELICIOUS PoBoy with toasted bread at The District Fish Wife for $13. I live in a building in NoMa with 452 units and a very active tenant group chat. And now I’m gonna tell other people my experience. So if the owners or marketing team are reading this, you need to realize there are way too many options in the immediate area to be this uncompromising about something as basic as toasting bread.

I’ve been going to Bubs and Pops for years but this my first time visiting their new location. Came in at 2pm on Saturday. Place had maybe 10 people and an equal number of staff, most standing around unhappy (staff and customers alike). I ordered a single classic Italian hoagie, it took 42 minutes. I saw one guy wait 50 minutes for fries; when he finally got them, he asked for extra ketchup, the staff dead serious said he’d have to place another order for that because they charge $0.50 for ketchup. Also they have a massive sign that says pick up here but when you go there, they have an employee there to tell you to actually pick up at bar?

Bub & Pop never disappoints! The sandwiches are absolutely delicious—fresh ingredients, perfectly balanced flavors, and made with so much care. Every bite is satisfying, and you can tell quality is a top priority. The atmosphere is welcoming and the service matches the food: warm and genuine. If you’re looking for a place that consistently delivers amazing sandwiches, Bub & Pop is a must-visit. Big s/o to Nolan who always has the best energy!

Italian Hoagie is one of the best I have ever had. The hoagie was loaded with so much flavor and a reasonable price for the sheer size. Pasta salad is also incredible. Most pasta salad is bland, yet with their unique spin, it was truly splendid to eat. They finally reopened indoor seating since the pandemic and the area is comforting. I will most certainly be returning soon.

So underwhelmed. I was excited to try this place after reading reviews and a referral from a friend. For an almost $26 I expected it to wow me! This is the first place I had to pay for the basic toppings like lettuce and tomatoes on a sub. I paid for hot peppers that weren’t hot! Marios and Al’s subs have them beat all the way for significantly less money.
