Happy to have another ice cream choice in La Mesa! Met a few of the owners during the first days of opening. Very quick and friendly service! When an error was made on my order, co-owner Terry (who was observing from behind us & shown in my photo) stepped in and told his staff to re-do it. I appreciated his intervention but insisted they just give me the cone and put it on top of the cup of ice cream. All 4 of the co-owners were there Terry and his wife Goldie and John with his wife Tracy. Very nice people! I tried 2 different flavors. The ice cream was SO creamy and delicious. The chocolate chips were pretty large which was not my personal preference but many people may like it that way. My husband really liked his banana ice cream. They have a drive through which was moving customers quite quickly. We will definitely be back!

As I embark on yet another culinary mission, I find myself in the vibrant sector of La Mesa, where a hidden gem has been unearthed within a humble strip mall: Bruster’s Real Ice Cream. This exceptional establishment transports me back to the East Coast, where I last savored flavors that danced with delight across my palate.

To the esteemed owner, I extend my deepest gratitude for planting this treasure in San Diego. My recent voyage involved an audacious blend of southern charm–a flavor known as “Banana Pudding”–an exquisite fusion of creamy banana custard, swirls of rich chocolate, and vibrant raspberry. Each spoonful whisked me back to my last indulgent experience on the coast, evoking memories of laughter shared and journeys taken.

My esteemed first officer, also known as my wife, chose a delectable coffee-infused creation paired with the same luscious chocolate and raspberry ribbons. It was a rendezvous of flavors worthy of the finest starship banquets.

The crew–enchantingly friendly–guided us through this delectable adventure, offering stellar service that made us feel right at home among the stars. The establishment itself was pristine, with effortless navigation to ensure our starship was parked with ease as we prepared for our delicious return journey.

And let us not forget the clever strategy of registering our telephone number upon our arrival, granting us a $3 discount on our cosmic bounty–wise maneuvers indeed!

Amidst the myriad destinations our remarkable planet has to offer, Bruster’s Real Ice Cream stands as a veritable beacon of indulgence, a pilgrimage for the senses that no earthly traveler should overlook. Here, flavors intertwine and elevate the ordinary to the extraordinary, resembling the treasures discovered across the cosmos.

The wonderful thing about this superstore is their commitment to the community: they cater to your little kids, your furry friends, and actively support our veterans. It is heartening to see such generosity woven into the fabric of this delightful establishment.

Thus, I implore you, dear travelers, to chart your course to this exquisite destination and partake in the marvels it has to offer. In the immortal words I often reflect upon: “To explore strange new flavors, to seek out new experiences, to boldly indulge where few have indulged before.” Engage!

Captain 619 out!

Great place! I’ve gone with friends and family on multiple occasions and they’re always good. The quality is great, it holds up well in the freezer (Much better than most of the store-bought stuff). About a month ago, during a visit with family they accidentally gave one of us the ice cream in a cup instead of a cone, when mentioned, they told us to keep it and gave us the cone properly as well. Great service and always exceptionally quick. There’s never less than 2-3 cars in the drive through, but they never have a wait. The whole line can be cycled through in a few minutes. Can’t wait to come back many more times.

Came here last night with the kids. Service was quick and friendly and our flavors were delicious. I got a cone with apple pie and banana and omg! They were both great!

My daughter got peppermint Oreo and regular Oreo. She absolutely loved the peppermint.

We also tried the strawberry and thought it could use it bit more flavor but love that it wasn’t so pink (less or no food coloring is a win for me).

It was cold outside so we ate ours in the car and saw a total of six cars using the drive thru and that looked quick as well. We’ll definitely come back.

Tonight was my first time visiting Bruster’s. I ordered a small cherry vanilla in a cup. The vanilla was mediocre at best – vanilla taste was barely there. Cherries were ok. Didn’t seem to blend together well. Also, the ice cream is the type that has a “stretchy” texture, for lack of a better term. I’m not a fan of ice cream like that. I ended up throwing it away after about 4 bites. It’s a shame – I really wanted this place to be good.

Fantastic experience. We stopped by the new Brusters Ice Cream in La Mesa and were blown away. The Pumpkin Patch flavor was incredible, rich, creamy, and perfectly spiced for the season. The Black Cherry was equally exceptional, full of flavor and real fruit.

The staff was friendly, the service was quick, and the atmosphere was cheerful and inviting. You can tell they take pride in what they do.

Welcome to the neighborhood Brusters. La Mesa is lucky to have you.

Phenomenal ice cream. Like In-N-Out you smell it before you see it. The fresh waffle cones are the way to go. Better than Handel’s or An’s Dry Cleaning.

Amazing ice cream! My family really enjoyed it. My wife loved her chocolate and cookies and cream flavors, my daughter enjoyed her cookies and cream ice cream, and for myself I thought the cookies and cream and butter pecan was delicious. We will come back again.

I tried this new ice cream shop in La Mesa. I had a two scoop container with pistachio and a seasonal pumpkin ice cream.

The ice cream was creamy but to sweet for taste. The pumpkin ice cream tasted like pumpkin, but the spice flavor was stronger than I would of liked. I was hoping for a more wholesome natural pumpkin flavor with not so many added ingredients.

The pistachio ice cream tasted okay. I felt like the flavor and color were more artificial than natural. I am used to eating natural pistachio gelato made with a handful of ingredients. It was also overly sweet for a Pistachio ice cream, which is not surprising since they use corn syrup and sweet whey, in addition to natural sugar.

The service was very good. The young lady at the counter was not only helpful but friendly as well. There’s only outside seating available at this location. They do have a drive thru.

Mediocre ice cream, small portions, long wait times.

Mediocre ice cream: The ice cream lacks richness and flavor. Simply not on par with other options in the area like Salt&Straw or Handel’s. They’re definitely not cleaning their scoops properly because every sample had a weird after taste and so did our orders. Some reviews claim “this is traditional ice cream” unlike other ice cream places around. I know traditional ice cream quite well as I grew up next to dairy farms that have ice cream parlors. This is not traditional ice cream. It is disappointing at best. You’re better off purchasing ice cream from the grocery store.

Small portions: they say “2 scoops”, really it is 2 small loosely packed scoops equivalent to 1 scoop. The price is fine for 1 scoop, no reason to have false advertisement.

Wait time: They had 4-5 people scooping ice cream. We waited around 30 minutes to get to the window with only 3 small families in front of us. We waited around 10 minutes to order at the window, then another 10 minutes to receive our order. For the same total time you could go to Salt&Straw in La Jolla and back with much better ice cream.
