Front of House Manager Dennis was also our server was a delightful guy. He helped us with our menu choices and asked if we were celebrating anything. Stephen acknowledged it was his birthday. We both ordered the Bourbon Lattes, then the Carrot Lox Sandwich, Bacon, Eggs and Cheese Sandwich and shared a side of Herbed Potatoes hit the table.
Our lattes arrived hot, creamy, delicious and decorated with coffee beans floating in the luscious foam. The food arrived a few minutes later. Stephen’s Carrot Lox Sandwich arrived with a birthday candle and kind words from Dennis. The birthday boy was beside himself by how unique and delicious his sandwich was. Super thin mandolin sliced carrots are smoked and dressed then stacked with all the fixing between two toasted thick slices of Rye bread resulting in the Carrot “Lox” Sandwich. My Bacon, Egg & Cheese was…Hands down the BEST BREAKFAST SANDWICH I’VE EVER HAD. Perfectly cooked dippy eggs, thick sliced crispy bacon, creamy melty cheese, greens and a mustardy aioli and crunchy fennel I think between a soft buttery Brioche Roll. Simply Devine!
Don’t sleep on the Side of Herbed Potatoes. We shared an order. Wish we ordered 2. These are the first cravable breakfast potatoes. Creamy, buttery, and herby…they actually melt in your mouth. Order a couple for the table. Ask for salt. Hit the spuds with a pinch of sea salt and enjoy the crunch
The reason to visit the rock stars at Bruce & Son is there is absolutely NO reason not to.
I love brunch, and I’m willing to pay for a interesting brunch with lots of creative offerings, but, I have several friends who are cooks and servers who joke about brunch because they charge pretty decent prices for basically very inexpensive ingredients, hot cakes, potatoes, Coffee etc. So I’m assuming the profit margin on brunch should be pretty good. Give us a break and don’t charge the credit card fee. It’s not worth the bad will. Also, would they really rather have cash?
On to the food. There were three of us. The hot cake was very good. I love splitting something like a Dutch baby or a hot cake, so we all get a bite. This was well done. There were two egg sandwiches and a BLT.
Each sandwich was about $18.
The drinks were outstanding.
Although I know quite a few cafes are offering mushroom lattes now (Mushroom seems to be having a moment, just as turmeric was Last season) I was not tempted to try it, because I love good Vietnamese coffee. And they did a beautiful job with it.
So overall, the food was good. Creative, well done, and my drinks were also excellent, but let’s just not charge that credit card fee. Also, things are rather expensive, the sandwiches again were $18, and that did not include the herb roasted potatoes which we got as a side item for $8. Making brunch expensive, but absolutely delicious and creative!
Also, our server was attentive…at first, and then waned a little bit throughout the meal. But, thankfully there were not many patrons, (which perplexed me, because we did have to make reservations and I had heard it’s normally busy) and so we were able to flag her down when we needed her.
Chocolate chip scone & pumpkin butter were fab as was the sourdough and berry jam!
Mixed berries were so fresh! Eggs were buttery but great.
