I thought all Brown’s Chicken locations closed throughout Chicagoland since the early 2000’s. To my surprise I was passing by through Skokie and saw that this location was still open!!!
On my visit tonight, Edgar greeted me with enthusiasm. I informed him that Brown’s Chicken was a part of our upbringing in the 1980’s, 90’s, etc…especially the fried mushrooms and gizzards!!!
They have an 8pc dark special online for $9.99 and 1/4 pound fried mushrooms for $4.99. The chicken tasted exactly the same…crunchy and juicy! The fried mushrooms were outstanding…even better than I remembered. This batch was very crunchy. I believe there are 2 breading options now – crunchy or soft.
We will definitely return even though we live in Chicago, near Bucktown. When you visit, the fried mushrooms are a must!!!

I seriously love Brown’s Chicken. The fried chicken is so good—crispy, flavorful, and always hits the spot. My go-to order is the chicken sandwich, it’s easily my favorite thing on the menu.
You have to try the hush puppies too—they’re underrated and definitely a must. Everything is a really good value for the price, especially for how filling and tasty the food is.
The cashier staff are super friendly and fast with the orders, which makes the experience even better. And the best part? They offer halal chicken, so it’s an easy choice for me every time. Highly recommend.

I tried the crispy chicken sandwich and it was actually really good. The outside had a nice crunch to it without tasting oily, and the chicken inside was juicy and tender. Everything tasted fresh, and the flavors were simple but really satisfying. It’s the kind of sandwich that’s easy to enjoy, and I’d definitely get it again.

Just experienced probably my worst Brown’s chicken experience I’ve ever had….I came in today around 12pm and ordered 2 lunch specials and 1lb of gizzards only to get home and regret spending my hard earned money there. The fries were overcooked and the chicken temperature was in between warm and cold. The best part about my meal was the biscuit and gizzards. I’m very upset to have driven there and back home only to have a subpar/below average meal. Brown’s chicken you have to better because you can do better. It’s supposed to “taste better” right, it did not today.

I really wanted to like this place. I hope this review will help more the kitchen to have better quality as the intention is not to discourage people to est here.
The chicken can use more seasoning. Also the chicken is not evenly cooked. Is it the fryer not correctly frying or I don’t know. I will try to upload the pictures,some pieces have parts of over-fried mear,meat, is dry and looking like wood splinters texture. My daughter couldn’t eat that part, as well myself. Also the chicken fingers were dry and I had to ask for sauce as they gave me my order without asking me what kind of sauce I wanted.I asked for Buffalo sauce, the sauce was thick like they used something to make more of it, as the color was lighter than regular Buffalo sauce and the consistency was like thick(think sour cream consistency) I also ordered chicken wings Buffalo spicy. Sauce was terrible, didn’t taste like Buffalo sauce and not spicy at all(same side Buffalo sauce for chicken fingers) the chicken over cooked and splinter texture. If you are a regular here and you like it well fine, but 8 wouldn’t go back and spend $50 , they need to pay attention in flavor, cooking syste and time and taste of sauces.

Overall forgettable. The crumbed chicken is okay, there are far better options. Crumbed chicken livers were terrible, not sure why they were crumbed in the first place. Fries were fresh and crispy though, that was the highlight of the meal.
We threw away most of the chicken and livers as it were simply tasteless.

Ordered the 8 pcs. with 3 sides. Three of the chickens were huge! I’m not really a fan of the red rice and beans but the mashed potatoes with gravy are so good. Took the leftovers home. They were so kind to let us finish our food. They were about to close up. Thanks guys! We will be back

This review is strictly based on my visit. When I went in, the restaurant did appear to be clean, and the staff was friendly and courteous, which I appreciated.
The chicken was okay—definitely not the best I’ve had. I felt like it could’ve been seasoned a bit more. The rice and beans were just rice and beans—nothing special, but they were good.
Overall, it wasn’t a bad experience. I would definitely go back, but I’ll be bringing my hot sauce with me.
