I was in need of some holiday gift “boxes” for some local businesses. Being in Sioux Falls, I had never worked with the Brookings Bakery before, but to say I was impressed would be an understatement. They were quick to respond to my request. They were friendly and helpful. And when our original plans changed, they were more than happy to adjust and deliver the items for us. Thank you for everything.

The cinnamon rolls are fantastic. Everything else is OK. The pastries are fine, but honestly, I’ve had better from HyVee. The breakfast sandwiches look and smell amazing, but I haven’t tried them. So maybe that’s what the buzz is about.
Pictured: one lemon turnover (bottom) one Danish with blueberry and cherry filling (top). Only $5 for both ($2.50 each). A great price for a local bakery, but, when factoring in the quality, is priced just about right.
Also, super slow service (just for ordering, there’s no table service). They don’t take American Express. Which is fine, whatever. But the card reader or whatever they use is impossibly slow, making the wait on the weekend excruciating. The workers are doing what they can, don’t get me wrong. But that slow technology sets a bad tone before you even get up to the counter to order.

I asked what they were known for and they said Caramel Rolls. It was gooey and delicious!! (pic in my own bowl)

The croissants were good but the hashbrowns were too salty. I did not try the cookies or danishes but both looked very good. The decor is minimalist and appears to be a work in progress. Staff was mildly friendly.

Awesome bakery. Reasonably priced, quality food, staff is extremely friendly and pastries are made fresh at the start of the day rather than made to order, so there’s a lot of variety. If you stop in after noon and have less to choose from, it’s still delicious and better than anything from hyvee or walmart. Also delicious fresh hot coffee. 5 *’s.

Great place for baked goods! Had to pick up some cookies and looked at hyvee first and did some comparison. This place was 4x cheaper and better quality. Staff was really friendly too! Definitely will be returning! Lovely local business

I work at a church in town. This past week we ordered buns from here for a few funerals because HyVee is too much of a headache now. They were on time with pickup and packaged easily. Upon bringing them to church, the ladies aid gushed as to how good they looked, how they were pre-sliced, and then when we ate them, how good they were. They have our business from now on!

It’s a real hometown bakery – not commercially/mass produced (i.e., Walmart & HyVee). Sure – it’s not the chicest little bakery – but its goodies are created with heart. You won’t find fancy, foo-foo pastries – but you will enjoy the freshest, home baked standards (caramel rolls, danishes, long johns, doughnuts, croissants, etc.). And for a filling breakfast – the sandwiches fit the bill. So – if you want to keep your Main Street alive – support your hometown bakery.

Went out in a snow storm to pickup some breakfast burritos and biscuits and gravy. 100% worth it, their breakfast is slept on. So good. I wish they were open on Sundays.
