My husband and I have spent each February for the past several years in Hilton Head Island (HHI). Friends recently purchased property in HHI and suggested we try the British Open Pub on Williamson Hilton Parkway. We were excited to discover a new venue for casual dining so decided to check out their happy hour on February 26, 2026, at about 5:15. When we arrived the bar area was full except for 1 seat. I walked up and started to pull the chair and was told folks were moving down to make room for another person. My husband than asked the bar tender (she) if we could sit at one of the tables to which he was given a very curt reply of, “You need to ask the hostess”. At that time another couple told us they were leaving and we could have their seat. Within 5 minutes they left and we began to sit down. I laid my small hand clutch on the bar to lift onto the stool. The same bar tender said in a rude tone, “I need to clean it first”. I removed the clutch and we both stood in front of the stools. When she was done, she simply left, offering no menus or greeting in any way. We watched the bar tender clear some dishes below the bar and carry them to a back room. When she returned about 5 to 7 minutes later, she was chewing something and cleared more dishes from below. When she was done moving dishes, she asked the person in front of her if they needed anything to which they indicated they were set. The bar tender still showed no interest in serving us. At this point we simply left and went to another HHI restaurant where we received what we have always found true, amazing HHI service. We will not be returning to the British Open Pub.

I ordered the crab cake Benedict with grits and the dish was delicious. The grits were especially good. The service was very pleasant and the outdoor seating was great. Really enjoyed our brunch!

This pub is cute on the inside, but I found the food left to be desired. Now, I will say, the fish and chips are good, but everything else we had was bland, uninspiring or flat out didn’t taste good. I had the liver, onions and bacon and that liver was unappetizing, I ended up picking at the dish. We also ordered a Scottish egg, which had no seasoning whatsoever! One bite of that and I was done. My stepdad had the cod sandwich, which he said was just ok. I would stick to anything fried from here, but if looking for a good sandwich or beer, this would be a better choice.

What an amazing time my husband and I had dining there. Erin was our server what a delight, we really enjoyed her humor. Food was great. We will certainly be back and will ask to be seated with Erin again.

Beware this place is a scam, they do not honor the displayed prices, they lie to your face while stealing your money. I happened to be there during happy hour, draft beer was shown as 3.50, I was charged 4.95, the reason was import beer cost more, i pointed out the beer was made in Milwaukee, the response, yes, not domestic? The pretzels showed at 5.99, I was charged 8.99 plus 1.99 for dipping cheese, i pce fish and chips showed as 7.99, I was charged 13.99. The reasoning was that happy hour prices don’t apply to gift cards, I did not have a gift card, I paid with an American credit card that I was given by RBC bank some years ago. I was overcharged on 3 of the 5 items I ordered and they refused to correct the prices. I was ripped off for $13 plus tax. If you want to have your money stolen by these criminals and like being ripped off and lied to this is the place for you, if not then run, don’t walk run as fast as you can away from this criminal enterprise.

The British Open Pub is hands-down my favorite spot for several reasons…best staff, best brunch, best happy hour and best overall vibe for the golf-set. The liver and onions are delish, prime-rib night is always sold-out and the banter at the bar is the juiciest gossip in town.

Food was quick and amazing. I got the Ruben sandwich and it was perfect. Place isn’t large which gives it a nice pub vibe. Staff were so nice and helpful. Will definitely be back!

We had just gotten into town and wanted to find a spot close for dinner. They got us seated right away but no one came for 10 minutes to get us a drink. The greeter finally got us some drinks while we continued to wait to order our food. Once we ordered the food was out quickly. No one came to give refills or even check how the food was. It was good!! We had to wait for another 15 or 20 minutes to pay our bill. Very cute place but the service tonight was lacking.
