The staff are exceptionally friendly and make you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. We ordered shareable plates like calamari and chicken wings—crispy, juicy, and cooked just right. The portions are generous and the pricing is very reasonable.
Beer lovers will appreciate the huge selection of local brews on tap. Ask for a flight of samplers—my favourites were the lager and amber. Add in free onsite parking and you’ve got a spot that’s well worth the visit, whether you’re a local or just passing through.
Our family (2A2C) went for a little drive out of town with a hope to get a bite before a little time fishing in the river. We saw this place online and thought “decent reviews…why not?”
We drove there (only about 35 min from Barrhaven) and it was exactly what we thought. A quaint little diner on the waterfront.
We sat inside (then shifted to outside when a table with an umbrella opened up- there were only 4 out of a patio of about a dozen+ tables) and ordered our drinks. A kid’s milk, a milkshake (about 30% of it was whipped cream) and a coffee.
We then selected our meals and ordered a kid’s grilled cheese and salad (nice though simple, as it should be for a kids meal), a fish burger with fries which is actually a fish and chips placed on a bun (???), a club sandwich with fries and a little mayo on the side as sometimes the sandwich comes very light on mayo for all the ingredients on a club (solid sandwich and fries, again as it should be for a diner as it’s a staple), and an all you can eat mussels which comes with a tomato sauce or a white wine and cream sauce. My wife choce the white sauce and sadly it was more like a mussels alfredo that anything light and fragrant. That being said, the mussels were cooked perfectly.
We had to get going so we asked for the bill from our server who was pleasant and kind throughout the entire experience.
We paid and left and it was only after when I looked at the receipt that the “oddly high” bill started to make sense.
Here’s the breakdown:
***number of exclamation marks = level of price insanity
Club $17.95
Extra mayo $1.50!!!!!!!!!!!! (for a tiny plastic cup and I was never told there was an extra charge)
Kid’s grilled cheese $9.00
Crispy fish burger $18.50!!
All you can eat mussels $20.75
Kid’s milk $3.50!!!
Coffee $3.00!!
Milkshake $9.00!!!!!!! ( I had no idea I was in the same diner as Pulp FIction movie)
Overall the place is in a nice location with nice servers but it is also simply a diner serving diner food that’s “ok” to which the prices are (mostly) completely outrageous.
I’d go if I were you but you’d really REALLY better be careful what you order unless you have just recently come into an inheritance or you won the lottery.
