Brennan & Carr is one of those old-school New York spots that has stood the test of time. From the outside, it has that authentic neighborhood charm — simple, traditional, and full of history. Step inside, and you immediately feel the classic diner-style atmosphere that makes it so special.
The roast beef sandwich is the star of the show. Thinly sliced, tender, and incredibly flavorful, served on a soft roll that perfectly absorbs their famous house gravy. The dipping sauce takes it to another level — rich, savory, and unforgettable. It’s comfort food at its absolute best.
Portions are generous, prices are reasonable, and the quality remains consistent. It’s not about fancy presentation here — it’s about bold flavors and tradition done right.
The staff is efficient and straightforward, keeping the line moving while maintaining that friendly Brooklyn energy. It’s the kind of place locals love and visitors are lucky to discover.
If you want an authentic, no-frills New York food experience with serious flavor, Brennan & Carr is a must. Classic, satisfying, and iconic. Highly recommended

I hadn’t been in the Marine Park area in ages & decided to stop here for lunch yesterday. It was a cold day so I decided to have a soup & a sandwich. I had the clam chowder to start, which was pretty good. Then had the roast beef sandwich which they’re known for dipping the bread in the beef’s juice. I added cheese & onions & practically inhaled the sandwich it was so good. The service was quick & the server polite. The restaurant is quite old & though that adds to the atmosphere the table I was seated at needs to be refinished. There was a huge chunk of lacquer or varnish missing & if you’re not careful you could end up spilling your drink if you slide it across the table. Though I’m sure not all tables were like that. Still a great place to have a reasonably priced & delicious meal if you’re in the area. They also have a takeout window.

Iconic and absolutely worth the trip out. It can get busy and there was a bit of a wait, but after trying the food, I can see why. I started with a cup of their New England clam chowder, and it was easily one of the most flavorful I’ve had in a long time. But the real star is their signature roast beef sandwich, served soaking in jus. So tender, so flavorful, and exactly what you hope for from a place like this. I can see why it’s such an institution. And on top of that, it’s a great value too.

Finally got to visit this Brooklyn institution. It was alright to be honest. I do like the other famous competitor more better as there is pizza after a certain amount spent. The roast beef sandwich was alright, the Manhattan clam chowder was good. Sweet potato fries were nice! Big fan of the service and atmosphere! Be ready with your cash and it is pricey in my opinion.

What an awesome place. Feels like going back in time. I came here on a cold Monday night with two friends. They sat me before my friends arrived which I appreciated. We had 3 sandwiches, 2 cups of NE clam chowder, a few sides to share, 2 rounds of beer all around and 2 desserts a la mode. The total came out to $98. Unbeatable. The beef sandwich is incredible. I recommend getting it rare with cheese and double dipped. If you don’t like too much au jus and are scared of soggy bread, maybe get it on the side. But I liked it! Also the desserts are not to be missed, we got the blueberry pie and chocolate lava cake. I think the pies ala mode are definitely the way to go here.

It’s a very old fashioned place. I was the only black person in there when I walked in, but was treated just as wonderful as anyone else. Cash only, the register is extremely old. (I remember seeing a similar one at a diner in Long Island, but they renovated and stored the old one in the basement.)The parking lot holds about 8 to 10 cars. It’s not plenty of parking, but at least you can park without worrying about the meter. The servers are awesome. They really seem to know their job. As soon as someone gets up they wipe the table and then seat whoever is next at a table. I got the roast beef sandwich with cheese and onions double dipped and cheese fries. I asked the server which should I order between the onions rings and cheese fries and he picked the cheese fries. The food was fantastic and much cheaper than all the other restaurants that sell french dip. French dip is simply a roast beef sandwich that you can dip in a sauce that has beef stock with some seasoning. The drinks come in a paper cup, unless it’s beer (which is served in a mug). I suppose it’s less dishes, but it just looks odd compared to how the rest of the meal is served on small plates. The price for the sandwich and the cheese fries with tax came up to less than $20. I’m not complaining, give them a try.

This was my first time having a roast beef sandwich in this classic style- really delicious! The blueberry pie a la mode was also phenomenal. A great place to have an affordable meal on a Sunday afternoon.

Old school roast beef served in old school environs with old school service. Get the classic double dipped roast beef sandwich w/ cheese and a side of extra beef broth – delicious! Cash only and no delivery, so you know there’s great value to be had here. Also – please don’t take this to go, this is meant to be enjoyed inside the building sitting down at a table.

I came here for the roast beef sandwich and it was incredible but what was even more incredible was the service. The staff were so nice and friendly. I ordered the fries and the onion rings as sides and they were hot and fresh. For desert, I ordered the apple pie ala mode and the chocolate lava cake; they were both incredible, the lava cake and the apple pie were not too sweet and super rich; the ice cream also complemented the deserts. Great experience, would love to come back!
