If it came out that this joint buys their food frozen from the Safeway across the street, microwaves it, and serves it for $17/plate i wouldn’t be remotely surprised. I would expect this quality of food from a hole-in-the-wall diner that serves the same food for $7/plate.
We ordered the “big breakfast,” “classic French toast,” and “eggs benedict.” The hollandaise on the benedict was clearly squirted out of a bottle, the hash browns tasted frost bitten, stale, and undercooked. The French toast was undercooked and served with a “Mrs. Buttersworth” type of syrup instead of pure maple syrup. The big breakfast came with the same stale, undercooked hash browns, flimsy bacon, and a single pre-made sausage patty (that tasted microwaved).
I got a blueberry scones to go, in hopes that at least their pastries held some value… I questioned whether I had covid and had lost my taste buds. I was literally just eating texture.
All in, we paid $70 and felt we could have gotten a better meal from Starbucks.
The cakes in the display looked nice, but so did the scones…

They now serve boba tea! Unfortunately they are new to this and my first tea had some hiccups. The tea itself is good (they make it fresh from their selection) but they weren’t able to find the boba straws when I was there. I’m sure that will be sorted out soon, but it meant I didn’t get to taste the boba until I arrived home. I asked for brown sugar boba and I think I received crystal boba. They did offer multiple flavors of popping boba (note, it is not listed as popping boba, but it is) so if that is what you like I think you’ll be pleased. They said they offer boba all day.
The rest of the restaurant gets 5 stars. They offer excellent brunch and lunch and have a lovely patio. Try the chocolate French toast if you want something decadent!

June 2024: Sweets, sandwiches, omelets. Pluses: wide selection of food with Lava Azza coffee. Dining room is nice too. Minuses: tomato in the salad is not ripe and the breading in the tart dessert was dry. However I am willing to give some of the other deserts a try. For the sake of mankind.

I came in hoping for a calm moment with my book, coffee, and pastry, but the service made that impossible. It took 15 minutes just to place my order, and soon after I finally got my drink, I was repeatedly asked if I was ready to pay — as if they wanted me to leave. The café wasn’t busy at all, so it didn’t feel justified.
The coffee was great, and the barista who actually served me (not my assigned server) was wonderful. But overall, I left feeling rushed and unwelcome.

Came here early to try out the breakfast. Parking in the rear was plentiful and easy to navigate. The staff was attentive and helpful with the menu. Tried the French toast and a breakfast sandwich on a croissant. The French toast was dry and lacked flavor. The same for the breakfast sandwich. The croissant seemed like day old and not fresh. For the price, more was expected.

Bread & Chocolate is a caffe restaurant with a variety of desserts, I ordered a vanilla latte, it’s delicious, I also liked an almond croissant because it doesn’t feel very sweet, the glaze on top with the almonds gives it a special flavor, I also tried the ball Chocolate stuffed with white chocolate cake inside, it was super yummy…
The atmosphere and decoration is very nice, it has tables inside and outside, ideal to meet with friends, family or just work.

I ate there today for the first time in many years, & the tap water was terrible. Is all of DC like that ? Also, the French toast was a total let down especially at the price point. Not only was it insufficient in the egg soak, it also came out cold. How hard is it to make a decent French toast ? I won’t be ordering that again. Lesson learned…

This place is a whole good vibes with class. I saw that they serve fine wines and beer but chose not to indulge(having brought my kid with me and all Lol). The desserts are unbelievably delicious. I had their Tiramisu which was too rich for my taste in one day I saved the other half for the next and it was just perfect. My kid enjoyed his hot chocolate and my Americano cappuccino was pleasant. We also got some cookies to go with a brownie and they were also fine.
