Seated at a perfect table in main dining room. Ambiance was set with darker lighting setting a very relaxing mood.
Our waitress recommend Fried Pork Cheek Rillette. Small plate packed with amazing flavors. The pork had a crisp exterior opened to a moist falling apart pork roast consistency. The sauce had amazing depth of flavors. I wanted to make a meal of the dish definitely a go to choice.
Salmon dish and the pork loin for main course.
The salmon was prepared perfect with the right amount of crisp outer and flake apart inside. Perfectly paired with a unique take on carrots. The pork loin was served over sweet potatoes mashed with smoked apple pieces. The pairing was so rich and delicious. The dish needed just alittle more apple as it brought the flavors out to a perfect depth.
The food was so well prepared and thoughtful served. The staff was very helpful. The ambiance and hospitality of the whole dining experience was so unique. My wife said she would gladly drive 3 hours from our home to have another dining experience at Brazen Open Kitchen. Definitely tops tier dining experience in Dubuque IA
Only issue was one young man attending the front wearing all black was inattentive and lacking focus. He should’ve just called into work if he was tired or ill. Being on the front line of a reputable restaurant, especially as a host, he’s the first impression a person makes. Luckily he had higher ranking staff to assist and make up for his lack of focus.
They offered us a small fruit bowl for our 10 month old, which was wholly appreciated and totally unwarranted.
The ribeye was perfectly cooked; as was the pork belly appetizer. We would love to come back and try the other options offered.
Seriously, this place fed me one of the best fried chicken meals I’ve had in years. I’ve long said that my favorite fried chicken comes from Harold’s on the south side of Chicago. That still hold true but only because the fried chicken at Brazen is a completely different take on yard bird.
The Brazen version is incredibly juicy and delicious. The breading is a bit lighter in color but offers plenty of those crunchy bits that makes really good fried chicken such a treat. The meat itself is juicy and fork-tender. Chicken in this country can be bland but that’s not the case at Brazen. They locally-source just about everything and that includes yummy birds. Of note: the picture may not do the 4-piece chicken justice. It’s a lot of food!
The bread and butter was a nice start. Great assortment of adult beverages (I had a McCallan 12 and a Eagle Rare Manhattan) from the bar. Service was impeccable.
The cost is worth the experience, excellence, and uniqueness.
Staff is always so lovely. We recommend doing a family style to really experience a majority of the dishes if you’re into sharing. It is always a great time.
The dinner itself was nothing short of amazing. We had the ribeye, which was cooked to absolute perfection—tender, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The ½ Amish chicken was equally impressive, so delectable that every bite left us wanting more. You could tell the kitchen takes pride in every detail, from the freshness of the ingredients to the balance of the menu.
What truly set the evening apart, though, was the staff. They were not only professional and efficient but also tentative in the best way—anticipating our needs without hovering and making sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal.
Brazan delivers the perfect mix of atmosphere, cuisine, and hospitality. Highly recommend it for anyone wanting a memorable dining experience.
The Cucumber Fizz drink was refreshingly perfect for the hot evening. The bread was very tasty. The chilled sweet corn soup was absolutely delicious – I wanted a bucket of it . The peaches appetizer was fairly bland, and the peaches were mealy. That was our only negative dish. I had the cheese pizza with fresh basil added, and it was amazing! I wish the crust was crispier, but regardless, I can’t wait for the leftovers for lunch today. My husband had the salmon. He enjoyed it.
Our server was attentive and friendly. We brought our dogs and dined on the patio, and they even brought them water.
We would definitely go back, because we want to try some of the other menu items.
If you’re looking for one of the best dining experiences in Dubuque, Brazen Open Kitchen absolutely delivers.
From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels elevated but still welcoming—perfect for a date night or a night out with friends. The open kitchen concept adds such a cool touch, letting you see the care and craftsmanship that goes into every dish.
The food is truly standout. Every plate feels thoughtfully curated, with bold flavors and high-quality ingredients. You can tell the menu is chef-driven and intentionally designed, not just your typical restaurant lineup. Whether you’re trying something new or sticking to a classic, it’s done exceptionally well.
Service was just as impressive—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly without feeling overbearing. It made the entire experience feel seamless and relaxed.
Brazen is one of those places that feels like a treat every time you go, and it’s clear why it has such a strong reputation in the Dubuque area. Highly recommend—this is a spot you’ll keep coming back to.
