One thing I am most grateful for about living in SOFLO is, naturally, the tropical weather; secondly, the abundance of excellent restaurants conveniently located everywhere around me—from simple mom-and-pop venues, to diners, to trendy chains, to upscale restaurants.

Sometimes, if one dares to try a small, seemingly insignificant restaurant tucked away in an obscure strip plaza off the major highways, one may discover a true diamond in the rough. Last Friday, I found that diamond.

The restaurant is named Bravo, located at the entrance of Wilton Manors on 6th Avenue (2926 7th Ave., Wilton Manors—just about 1,500 feet south of Oakland Park Blvd.). Driving by, one might think it is a sleazy strip plaza. Anyway, a friend suggested that our group of foodies go there because he had been before and loved it. I am usually skeptical when someone recommends a place and simply says, “It’s nice. You’ll like it.” Still, being a good sport, I followed the gang.

The restaurant features a spacious, pleasant, and comfortable bistro-style L-shaped dining area with a full liquor bar in the middle. Our friend made reservations for six at six, we were promptly seated, and each was handed a menu. Within a few minutes, our server came over, took our drink order, and recited a couple of specials. He quickly returned with our drinks and water, then gave us about ten minutes to study the menu and enjoy our cocktails.

No one in our group was particularly fluent in Peruvian cuisine, and an avalanche of questions followed: “Does anyone know what this or that is?” Our server finally came to the rescue, answering all our questions by not only explaining the ingredients but also vividly describing the flavors, as if he were tasting each dish right in front of us. It was remarkable.

Needless to say, both our appetizers and entrées were outstanding, but the entire dining experience was truly memorable. I not only applaud the restaurant and its staff—I also exclaim a loud BRAVO!

I came to Bravo to have lunch. I was seated and 5 servers ignored me. NOTE: everyone else Latin im the only American Black. No one offered me water. I sat patiently for 15 minutes. A young lady name EMILY that worked the opposite side saw me being ignored and approached me and ask me can she please assit me and ask me would i like something to drink I told her it bothers me be ignored being that im seated and have made eye contact with all the servers and its not busy why would they not help me. Emily went above and beyond brining me my red wind and fish rice potatoes and calamari with brown sauce and cheese cake. The food was outstanding and I Gave Emily a $30.00 tip. The advice i would off this establishment DONT JUDGE ME BY MY SKIN BECAUSE MY MONEY SIT INSIDE A LEATHER WALLET. Black People like me enjoy fine dining and visiting small establishments such as this BLACK DOLLARS are lucrative dollars and you will find many Blacks of my style elegance and caliber willing to spend to have good food served to them with diginity and respect !!

Bravo was a good experience. The food was definitely enjoyable and tasty, and the drinks like the passion fruit and eucalyptus PISCO were really worth trying. Our server Rafael was super friendly and made us feel welcome. Just a heads-up: arriving close to closing time (we came at 9:10 p.m. and they close at 10 p.m.) meant the host seemed a bit ready to wrap up. So for a more relaxed vibe, I’d recommend going a bit earlier.

4 stars – Amazing octopus , friendly service, but some details fell short

My girlfriend and I drove from Miami looking for something different and chose Bravo because we love Peruvian food—especially octopus. At first, service was slow and they forgot some sauces and lime we asked for. Luckily, Stephanie (our server) noticed and, with help from the super friendly bussers, turned things around.

The sangria wasn’t what we expected—it lacked flavor. The ceviche was also underwhelming: the seafood didn’t seem fresh, and the fish pieces were way too big. BUT… the octopus was next level. Seriously, it was so good I ordered another one with extra potatoes. It was so phenomenal we even sent a cash tip directly to the chef who prepared it.

Dessert was solid (4 stars), and the place has potential. I’d just recommend giving more love to the bar area—it feels empty and the liquor selection is limited despite having a full license.

We’ll come back… but mainly for that amazing octopus and the kind service that saved the night.

Do not come here for a dinner with normal service. The service was so slow. It was about an hour until our food came out. Not sure what took so long because we ordered simple items.

They also added auto gratuity of 20% – the service was terrible and now we see why.

The busser spilled soy sauce on us and dropped plates.

Food was average – sushi was not that great.

I used to come here a couple years ago but seems to have changed. My local friends noted that something has changed as well.

Don’t come here if you’re hungry because food takes too long to come out.

Suggest checking out another ceviche spot for better service.

Beware – they’ll charge you per refill on a simple drink like Arnold Palmer which is just iced tea and lemonade…. Doesn’t make sense.

Been going to Bravo since back when it was called Bravo Gourmet Sandwich!

Unbelievable Peruvian cuisine, and always a pleasure dining here. Both the original location in Wilton Manors and the location in Coral Springs are excellent.

The Bravo Steak sandwich is pretty much a perfect sandwich – it’s so difficult not to get one every time we go, lol

Other favorites include the octopus, fried yucca balls, steak risotto, pescado a lo macho, and more… You can’t really go wrong here!

Our server Mira was fantastic! Very attentive and friendly.

Looking forward to the next time!

Incredible food and service tonight, as always! Francisco took care of us so well, ask for him! We’ve been coming here for years and we will never stop! Oh and try the Seco de Res. I’ve introduced this dish to so many people and they love it. Sangria here is the best too. And of course, the ceviche!
