For the best meal in Bergen skip the overpriced waterfront seafood places and instead walk a few blocks back to this gorgeous slice of Paris.
Everything here was perfect – the beautifully decorated room, the fast service, and most of all the food.
This is not traditional French food, it’s much more elaborate and superbly executed.
The wine list was also a pleasant surprise with a nice range of well priced wines by the glass.
A superb night out.

Our Christmas lunch at this restaurant was an absolute standout experience! From the moment we arrived, the ambiance transported us to a cosy French bistro, complete with enchanting music and eclectic decor. It’s a must-visit, especially during the holidays, so be sure to book in advance as they fill up quickly.

We started with the recommended Roche De Bellene Bourgogne rouge Pinot noir and a refreshing non-alcoholic apple cider, Aga Sideri Eple 2018. For mains, we indulged in the Croque Cherie, a delightful combination of toasted brioche, braised beef brisket, and a medley of cheeses, served with a fresh Toppe salad and pickled vegetables. The Venison Tartare, enhanced with additional caviar, was a masterpiece of flavours, featuring venison from Haugen farm food and a variety of gourmet accompaniments. The French onion soup was a comforting classic, perfectly executed with toasted sourdough and Gruyère cheese.

By dessert time, the menu had shifted to dinner options, but we couldn’t resist trying the Tarte Tanin with hazelnut praline and apple sorbet, and the Crème brûlée with orange jelly and financier crumble. Each dessert was a delightful end to our meal.

The portions were generous, and sharing the mains was a wise choice as they were quite rich, yet every bite was delicious. The service was impeccable, and we felt incredibly fortunate to secure a booking. This restaurant truly made our Christmas lunch unforgettable!

Excellent French food in a beautifully themed atmosphere with attentive, friendly staff. The Bavette steak with bordelaise sauce was honestly better than any I’ve had in France (sorry, France). The truffle-loaded mashed potatoes were rich and generous, and the presentation of the two was perfection. The recommended house wine paired so perfectly it felt like fate. I found myself looking for that coveted star by the end of the meal! (-; My wife’ is seldom negative. However. she loves martinis and the French Martini she ordered was served in a tall glass full ice like a Long Island Tea. That was a bit rough for a martini lover to swallow! Sadly, her teeth are sensitive to ice and she never wants it. And martinis are best served/drank in a martini or coupe or anything elegant glass. The trooper she is, she drank it because she LOVED it (full disclosure it was excellent). She just didn’t like the ice or glass. After desert and a properly glassed espresso martini she was fine. I They were even nice to show us around the bar two floors up and a speakeasy two more floors up! All three were IMMACULATELY decorated. Moral of the story, put Cheri’s on the top of your list to go to on your trip to Bergen and order your French martini in a proper glass – without ice cubes! You’ll love the place.

Ate here New Years Eve. The decor is very impressive. Very Parisian and quite classy. The NYE menu was great, started with oysters and champagne before moving on to lobster bisque, halibut, duck, cheeses, crème brûlée and finishing with some cakes. Service started off strong but dipped after the first course. What should have been a 1,5 hour sitting dragged into an over 4 hour dinner. Some dishes took ages to come out and were not timed well with the wine pairings. We were wanting to watch the fireworks and perhaps have gone to a wine bar or something after dinner. Instead midnight came and we were stuck on the second last course. For 3000kr each it certainly was not worth it. Quite a few couples around us were complaining about this too. Shame as the food was nice.

We stopped into Brasserie Chérie for early evening wine and small plates while exploring the Skostredet area. It’s tucked along a walkable side street lined with bars, vintage shops, and record stores. The vibe inside is moody and stylish—lots of dark wood, dim lighting, and velvet textures that feel more Paris than Bergen. You can tell they’re going for a grown-up wine bar feel, not a touristy brasserie knockoff.

We each had a glass of wine to start—one red, one white—and both were well-selected and properly poured. The wine list isn’t huge, but it’s focused. Prices were reasonable for Bergen, and it felt like someone actually curated the menu instead of filling it out with filler options. For food, we shared a few light dishes, including the burrata, tartare, and frites. Everything came out quickly and was plated cleanly. The portions are small, but it’s intentional—it’s more of a wine-and-snack stop than a full dinner experience.

Service was polite and attentive without being chatty. Our server gave solid recommendations and never rushed us, even as the room started to fill. The pacing worked well, and we never had to flag someone down.

Overall, Brasserie Chérie is a great option if you want a calm, adult setting for a proper glass of wine and a few well-made bites. It’s not flashy, and it’s not trying too hard. Just a good spot to reset, talk, and take a breather between sightseeing or dinner plans.

Amazing atmosphere and food. Breakfast starts early. It’s part of the hotel, but genuinely worth the visit even if you are not staying there.

We booked the six-course New Year’s menu. The main courses were served in very small portions, followed by a disproportionately large dessert, which seemed intended to compensate. The duck was a bit undercooked and the petit fours bites were unfortunately dry, specially the madeleine.
There were approximately thirty minutes wait between each course, resulting in a total dining time of nearly four hours. Halfway through the evening, we felt ready to leave.

The service was slow, and when asked about the cheeses being served, the waiter was unable to provide basic information. Additionally, his attitude came across as passive-aggressive, which was difficult to understand and detracted from the experience.
The couples and groups around us were having the same experience in general.
Considering the price we paid, I would not recommend this restaurant for a tasting course meal. That said, the decoration and ambiance were very pleasant.

We had a great breakfast here. The restaurant is part of a beautiful 4 star hotel. Seems like breakfast is included if you’re staying here, but we were not so the cost for us was 330kr per person. Essentially you can order anything from the menu for one price. We had coffee, juice, yogurt with granola, overnight oats, two omelettes and a croissant sandwich. Everything was excellent. The omelettes were nicely cooked and the smoked trout was delicious. Lovely spot for a nice sit down breakfast.

After getting off the cruise ship, we took a relaxed walk through Bergen towards the Fløibanen. On the way, we stumbled across this restaurant and it immediately stood out. Elegant facade, warm lighting, and something about it just said: this place has character.

Later that afternoon we came back for coffee and cake and we were not disappointed.

The interior is stunning: vintage wallpaper, playful art, antique books and little porcelain figures placed with care. It’s like stepping into a very stylish grandmother’s reading room if she had a thing for Parisian brasserie flair and bold design choices. In the best way.

The cappuccino was top – strong, creamy, just how it should be. I had a brownie that was perfectly done: crisp edges, soft and rich in the middle. Small portion, big flavor.

The staff were super friendly and welcoming without being over the top. We felt at home from the moment we stepped in.

This time, we only had time for coffee. Next time I’ll definitely stay for dinner. No way I’m missing that again.
