Look. I want any small business to succeed but this may be the most so-so meal I’ve had for this price point in NOLA ($55 for two). Some of it may be flavor profile that doesn’t match my palate but my buddy agrees with me. And the table next to us said: “we’ve lived in this neighborhood for 2 years and only been once. We want it to be good so we can come back.”
We ordered 2 wing flavors: kimchi lemongrass and the jerk. Both were super dry. It could be the size of the wing but it’s probably bc they were refried the wings. How did I figure? I’ve owned a wing franchise for 3 years and love wings, and the jerky texture is if they refry them after they were cooked 30-60 minutes prior and then sat. The host/server threw in another set of wings and those were plump and juicy. However the flavor of mango bbq was Mid (2.5). If the sauce could stay on, maybe I’d give it a 3.5/5.0 star.
The boudin grilled cheese? Looks good, but it felt mushy and this weird jelly sauce was off. The mustard had some cleaning flavor but I’m not a cook so I can’t explain it, but it was weird. The Brussel sprouts are roasted nicely but the SYRUP vinaigrette is too much. Too sweet and thus that make its weird — bc it sits in the sauce. Feedback? I would drizzle it on it and ADD a dipping cup of the vinaigrette — similar to ranch for chicken wings. As is? 2 star. If it wasn’t drenched and I could re-dip it, then I could give it a 4 star.
I love smash burgers but this one, also mid. I love the bun and it makes sense bc it is from Dong Phong. But the aioli sauce also had this cleaning flavor. The butter pickles felt as thick as the meat patty so that’s annoying bc it shouldn’t be equal to the patty in texture/size but a condiment. I know I know, “smash burger” but meh.
Overall, I like environment with the outdoor seating. Great space. Food? I won’t give it a one star but my friend gave it a 1.5 while I gave it 2 stars. Do I recommend it? No. Does it have promise? Sure. BTW, it was empty at 1pm with no presumable take out orders. By 1:30pm, there were 2 other tables walking up so that should be a sign of their popularity. Good luck. I’ll change my review if I come back but not sure if it’ll be in the next year.
We were really looking forward to trying this place, but unfortunately, our experience left a lot to be desired.
From the moment we walked in, things felt off. It had just rained, and there was no floor mat at the entrance—nowhere to wipe wet shoes—which made the already greasy floor a slipping hazard. The overall cleanliness of the restaurant was a big concern: open lids on food containers, a personal backpack sitting right next to the meat slicer on the kitchen counter, and no visible food safety practices like covering ingredients. The dining area didn’t inspire much confidence either. There were no chairs—just benches on one side of the tables—and the tables looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in quite some time. We had planned to dine in, but after seeing the state of things, we opted to take our food to go.
Now for the food:
12-Hour Roast Beef Po-Boy: The roast beef was decent, but it was completely overpowered by the horseradish. Using half as much would’ve gone a long way in balancing the flavor.
Boudin Grilled Cheese: The boudin itself was tasty, but the bread was burnt, which ruined what could’ve been a great sandwich.
Wings with Sweet Mango BBQ Sauce: These were the highlight of the meal—great flavor and cooked well.
It honestly felt like the owners were away and had left a few uninterested staff members in charge. The lack of care and attention to detail was really unfortunate because the menu shows promise.
We hope this was just an off day and not the norm, because this place could be so much better with just a little more effort.
The outdoor dining was nice and has the Old New Orleans Neighborhood Vibe, well shaded, slight breeze and mossy Oaks.
Service was SLOW with only 2 working the grill and front as well as serving . If your in a hurry don’t stop here, but if you have the time and the attitude to relax and enjoy visiting with friends, you’ll be fine.
Lastly the Gin and Tonic daiquiri was amazing. although it doesn’t resemble a gin an tonic but more like a cucumber mellow drink. Quite refreshing.
Counter service with nice friendly staff.
Nice selection of local and imported beer on tap. They also have fresh fruit daiquiris. They earl grey tea daiquiri was refreshing.
I had the “15 hour Roast Beef PoBoy” which good and Guy Fieri approved
