The Bourbon Grill sits slightly askew from Santa Fe’s well-worn culinary pathways, tucked near the equally enigmatic Harry’s Roadhouse—a location that feels less like an accident than a quiet statement. This is a place you arrive at deliberately, having decided, perhaps unconsciously, to step away from the crowds and the choreography of expectation in Santa Fe.

What distinguishes The Bourbon Grill is not spectacle but steadiness. The staff are warm in the way that cannot be trained: attentive without hovering, kind without performance. They appear to enjoy their work, and that pleasure subtly governs the room, creating an atmosphere that is inviting rather than impressed with itself. In an era when hospitality is often mistaken for branding, this kind of ease feels quietly radical.

This is not artful Santa Fe fine dining, nor does it aspire to be. Instead, it is an upscale Southwestern grill that values thought, creativity, and execution over ornamentation. The food is down to earth and unpretentious, yet meticulously prepared. Cleanliness and care are evident everywhere—from the dining room to the plate.

The cocktail menu is confident and well considered, anchored, as one would hope, by a curated and genuinely outstanding bourbon selection. Cocktail execution earns a solid 4 out of 5: thoughtful, balanced, and satisfying without drifting into preciousness. Keep in mind that earning a 5 from me is difficult.

The atmosphere remains relaxed and democratic—family friendly, even—which is not something I seek, but here it works. The room accommodates everyone easily, another sign of a place comfortable in its own skin.

There are practical pleasures too, often overlooked in restaurant criticism but deeply felt by diners: beautiful views, particularly of the stars at night, and—wait for it—plenty of parking. These things matter, especially when you are trying to enjoy yourself during the holidays in Santa Fe.

My Beef Chupadero was executed perfectly, both in flavor and presentation. The red chile piñon sauce added depth and warmth, the grilled scallion grounding the dish with a smoky sweetness. It tasted like an upscale version of an old cowboy meal—historical without nostalgia, generous without excess. It was the perfect size for me to make a meal out of it.

The Bourbon Grill does not ask to be discovered; it simply rewards those who make the effort. Step away from the predictable, and you may find that something quieter, more thoughtful, and more satisfying is waiting just off the road.

We came here with our tour group for the farewell dinner.

It’s away from down town Santa Fe. We were seated in a spacious private area. It turns out to very noisy: either from our mates or the pour sound management.

Our meals are pre-ordered: either salmon or chicken. My salmon is good. Chicken is ok.

The restaurant is rather empty on the Sunday before the Memorial Day.

No issues with getting a table quickly. Friendly staff. I was not a fan of the spinach balls with cheese sauce, it had an odd taste. My husband had the fish and chips – great. My mother had a steak, cooked as she requested and with great flavor. I had the bourbon green chile burger – not cooked as I requested and too much black pepper, but the fries were great. My son had the pancakes, the size of the plate with whipped cream, that he loved. Went for my husband’s birthday so the staff sang happy birthday and presented him with a piece of cake and extra spoons. The cake was divine, we all had a piece. Overall, a lovely restaurant, the parking lot is a little confusing, but great attentive service and good food. Also, good music choices.

What a disappointment of what we thought would be a great evening. And on Valentine’s too! The place was packed as to be expected but we had reservations and got sat immediately. We ordered Chips and Salsa as well as Green Chilie Cheese balls. When those items came out we were surprised to see guacamole with our chips and salsa as well, but noticed that those around us with chips and salsa also all had guac, so we figured just a nice little add on for Valentine’s. Wrong, will tell why later. The apps were decent and the balls just ok, tasted like they were probably overcooked but who knows, our first time having them. When ordering our main course my wife inquired about the Chicken Schnitzel, we were shocked when our waiter said that he would only recommend if you like lots of salt, not normal to hear staff talk down on food, but totally appreciate the honesty. She ended up getting half roasted chicken and I got the Fish and Chips from a recommendation. We also observed and listened to the table next to us have their waiter telling the guy to get a different steak than what he wanted because the price would be more beneficial and “who wants there bill to be $70 for 2 people” . Customer looked at him like he was crazy telling him how to better budget his money lol. That took balls on the waiters part. Guy said I want the steak I said lol. Anyhow our food…. The chicken was very dry and and not appeasing at all to my wife. My fish and chips looked amazing till you started eating and realized all your getting is 75% breading and such little fish you don’t even realize your eating it. The fries were very good. There was no need in telling our waiter anything considering we never saw him. We ate what we could tolerate and against my better judgment I decided to get a dessert to go, wanted something good to come out of this. We got the bread pudding and I don’t know what the crap they gave us was. Burnt out of the toaster bread that was ice cold in the middle of the container on bottom.when we got the container home and actually opened it was hard as a rock. I honestly have no clue what this “bread pudding “ was, no way that’s why they really serve, not even warm??? Look at the pictures and see, just looks disgusting, wish it would allow the video I made of pick up the chunk of whatever it is. Got the bill, and back to the guac, our $7 chips and salsa I ordered ended up being $12 because of the guac we didn’t even ask for, pretty petty to just add that extra $5 bet they assume most won’t notice. All in all this place was a joke and we wish would would’ve kept on driving.

I love steaks. I went to this restaurant to try their grilled steaks. I always like my meat at medium rare but they totally missed it. They got mine to medium well but I still like it. The flavor was good, well seasoned and well balanced. I don’t really need for a steak sauce. I enjoyed eating it. The sides were delicious too. The dessert of apple pie a la mode was good. It wasn’t too sweet, just the right level. My server was so accommodating and made sure I was well taken care. I gave it a 5/5. Would definitely recommend it.

Taco Tuesday
This is the Taco Tuesday review

Special: 3 Tacos
Cost: $20.00

The tacos are served with black beans and red salsa. The shrimp tacos are flavorful and well-prepared, and the pickled onions add a tasty, unexpected twist.
It takes a while for the food to arrive, and the staff occasionally forgets parts of the order.
Overall a great place to dine. The staff is friendly. The atmosphere is western rustic .

Ohhhhh man, I ordered a 12 oz prime rib and it was more like 16 oz. The cook was a perfect medium rare.
The chicken chili soup was outstanding, it didnt come from a can like other restaurants.
The salad had high quality cheese and dressing.
I got a kentucky mule with the right amount of giggle soda in it.

This place is fine dining cuisine and priced appropriately. Its a good date spot.

Seems the employees here range from good to fresh out of junior year of high school. Some servers just need more training and to pay attention to their service area. Took forever for someone to take our order. Food was decent including the steak, but not $45 decent. Steak was at least cooked medium as requested. Mixed drinks are pretty good.

Please fix the music. Trinity was decent, nothing spectacular, but then again, neither was the food. Prime Rib is very low quality, sinewy, and either roasted in house too quickly or is just a bad product. Sara lee makes a decent prime rib believe it or not, I think Sysco carries it. Steak had no seasoning, Au jus was some odd experiment of soy/teriyaki?? Knorr makes a very easy Au Jus, can be made to order. I would at least offer that along side of your teriyaki(au jus) sauce. Sautéed spinach slimy and oily. Price point was fair but I would rather pay $10-$15 more per person and have a better quality meal. Bread was par, no points deducted. But the dang music going in and out. It’s almost intolerable. If you’re having data issues out here just play CDs or MP3s.
