The atmosphere is great. The food was good, although a little spicy to my wife’s taste. The bourbon drinks were fabulous!
Unfortunately, the service was poor. Colin really struggled. We couldn’t get our water refilled, and my second drink arrived long after we were done eating.
While they were busy, we arrived fairly early on a Saturday evening, at about 5 PM, so I would’ve thought that the staffing would’ve accommodated better service.
While in town for an evening, my fiance and I stopped in for a nightcap. We were directed to the cocktail lounge entrance towards the corner. Perfect elevated spot for a date
Drinks ordered: Heart of Darkness $17 – Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, Hoodoo Chicory, Thai tea syrup, burlesque and hellfire bitters, and the glass being infused with hickory smoke. — More smokey and strong, with the Thai tea syrup not making it sweet-centric, just accentuated. Also, I ordered The Mangrove $15 – Mango pink peppercorn, Mezcal, mango oleo, lime, cilantro oil. — Overall sweeter mezcal margarita. Was hoping for more a more prominent cilantro presence and earthiness, but understandly accept it could discourage others not ready for it. I was still entirely satisfied with my drink and the atmosphere, especially for the same price point as some of the weaker cocktail menus in the vacinity.
Highly recommend for some intentional while affordable drinks. The vibe is warm and inviting! Stop by while in Columbia, SC.
As for the food, Phoe put us on to the best plates we could have asked for: the smoked pork and the étouffée. Both were cooked to perfection and had mesmerizing flavor. The smoked pimento cheese dip (pictured) was also a fantastic starter. As for drinks, we recommend the sunset tico—tequila and passion fruit is an undefeated combo. We would have taken more photos, but we ate too fast!
