I had heard many great things from Saunders County locals, and I was eager to see what the hype was all about. It didn’t take long for me to recognize that I was in for a treat! We rolled into town around 6:00 pm and parked in the midst of about thirty other cars in the gravel parking lot. I’d bet that three quarters of the town’s population (117 as of the 2020 Census) was packed into the restaurant!
The menu is surprisingly expansive and your options for grub are far from limited. A quarter-pound burger will run you about $3.50, or you can opt to order anything from chicken fried steaks, pork tenderloins, and Philly steak sandwiches to chili cheese fries, fried pickles, gizzards, mini corn dogs, sweet corn nuggets, wings, or a soup of the day. For those looking to spice things up a bit, there’s even a full-blown Mexican cuisine menu complete with tacos, burritos, and nachos! Another huge positive to note are the nightly specials that are available every day of the week, a couple of which include slow cooked prime rib for $17.95 on Fridays, chicken fried steak and savory choice ribeye on Saturday nights, and prime rib sandwiches all day on Sunday.
The prime rib sandwich was my meal of choice, and boy was it an interesting one! It’s unique in the fact that it’s basically as a steak on a bun, which, as weird as that may sound, actually made for an interesting meal. I elected to slather my sandwich with a generous portion of mushrooms and tasty melted cheese and pair it with some fried mac and cheese bites. I was SO happy with my choice–the rib had that “melt in your mouth” flair to it, and as hard as I tried, the portion was so big that it was hard for me to finish it all! I absolutely got the most bang for my buck that I could’ve. My travel companions tried their hand at pleasant crispy chicken wrap and yummy onion chips, some really quirky chicken nuggets (check out the picture, they’re like wings) that were really tasty, fried cauliflower, fries, and to really round out the menu, a hot dog! Everything came out relatively quickly despite the large crowd of people and we couldn’t have been happier with our experience.
Between the numerous televisions gracing the wall, the pool table, TouchTunes system, KENO, and food and alcohol selection, it’s not hard to see why Bottom Road is a hotspot for locals and folks that live all throughout the Saunders & Dodge County areas. Pay the little hamlet of Morse Bluff a visit sometime and you’ll find yourself at a restaurant filled with fun times, good food, and friendly people. Best of luck to the owners & staff throughout the rest of the year! (P.S. – I enjoyed the Pittsburgh Steelers memorabilia! Excellent choice of decor. :))
