We had an amazing experience and the owner was so friendly and super knowledgeable!! We had the deviled eggs, chef’s plate, fall salad and butternut squash soup as our shared plates. Every dish was flavorful and and the perfect amount presented for two people to share. I had the branzino as my main dish and my husband had the waygu. Both were cooked to perfection and the side that came with the branzino was so delicious and full of flavor! Of course we had to try the desserts, and they did not disappoint! All 3 were divine and I loved the salt in the espresso and cream dessert! It hit perfectly! We’ll definitely be back!

The food, amazing! They have a non Spanish and very creative twist on the small dish dining experience. You will meet the owners, as they are behind the bar and serving. Great people! This is a MUST try!

The atmosphere is great, but it belies an evaluated menu with unique flavors and great ingredients. My wife, who is gluten-free and vegetarian had her choice of several options, including a mushroom steak with red lentils. Small shareable and entres are available, including specials. My pork chop, on special, was one of the best I’ve had. A large selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are available.

I had a fenomenal birthday dinner at Borrowed Time. We had great service and they were extremely accommodating for my dairy allergy. The food was amazing! We ordered the Cubanish, Ceviche, bulgogi lettuce wraps, and chocolate mousse. We loved the Draft cocktail! After dinner we played some of the yard games outside!

Wonderful experience!
The food was so well thought out, presented, and tasted superb. I do have a soft spot for tapas (small plates) style restaurants because the conversation at the table comes so easily when you’re sharing the same bites of food. This restaurant did all of their dishes exceptionally well. Our favorites were the mushroom larb, roasted beets, and the olive cake with blueberries. Their menu sounds like it changes frequently so put this on your list to come back again and again. I know I will!

Also, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable, the atmosphere was very pleasant, and the restrooms were clean.

Borrowed Time in Douglas, MI, is a true culinary gem. The cocktails are expertly crafted, offering a delightful range of flavors that are both inventive and refreshing. The tapas are exceptional, each dish bursting with flavor and showcasing the chef’s skill and creativity. A highlight was the grilled sablefish, which was tender and perfectly cooked, with a seasoning that enhanced its natural taste beautifully. The warm, inviting atmosphere adds to the overall experience, making Borrowed Time a must-visit for anyone seeking a memorable dining experience in Douglas. Highly recommended!

We were recommended by our server from Duck Alley to check out Borrowed Time in Douglas, MI which is right by Saugatuck. The menu looked good so we were excited to try. Started off with a mezcal-based drink as well as some deviled eggs which today’s filling also had miso in there. The butternut squash soup had the perfect texture and was rich and creamy. The duck egg fried rice had a little Korean flare with the kimchi adding some kick. My favorite dish that we tried though was the seared pork belly. It lightly sweet from the cider braising and asian coleslaw pairing. The cider glazed carrots were wonderfully roasted and a great pairing for the rest of the more carb heavy dishes. For dessert, I went with their shared plate the strawberry tart since I wasn’t looking for one profile of something just sweet. The tart had savory goat cheese which is what I was looking for. The carrot cake and the chocolate pudding were also favorites of the table and a solid meal overall.

Our first time here! We really enjoyed the shareable plates because it gave us a chance to sample a variety. We had the brussel sprouts, lobster gnocchi (our fave of the evening), bison meatballs, and pork belly. Of course we saved room for dessert too, for which we ordered an apple cake with peanut butter frosting. Staff was very friendly and attentive, and overall a great experience!

Borrowed Time is one of my go-to spots in Douglas. The food is always spot-on, the drinks are great, and the vibe is relaxed and welcoming every single time. And I have to call out the daily deviled eggs—they’re different every visit and always amazing. I go often, and it never disappoints. Highly recommend.

We happened to be in the area and decided to drop in for dinner. Everything on the menu is offered via share plate experience (which is one of our favorite ways to dine). We started out with the deviled eggs and the mushroom toast and I got a refreshing cocktail “Spanish G&T”. Then we ordered the Lamb Lollipops, the Crab Cake, and also the Skirt Steak. Everything was SO GOOD! My cocktail was refreshing and botanical and who doesn’t love a gorgeous purplish-pink cocktail? We then finished up with a Smoked Tiramisu. Every dish was flavor-forward and every single bite had us reaching for more! My husband said that the skirt steak was the best he’s ever had… perfect texture and flavor. You can tell that every dish was created with skill and intention with flavor in mind. We can’t wait to come back here again!
