Reviews
The service was impeccable from start to finish – attentive, warm, and genuinely thoughtful. The food was beautifully executed and truly delicious. Each dish felt carefully crafted, with bright flavors and a clear attention to detail.
We started with the focaccia, which was surprisingly outstanding. As was the non-alcholic pear wine from Normandy! I can still taste that deliciousness just talking about it. We also enjoyed the olives and the buffalo mozzarella with smoked beets. The ravioli di zucca was flavorful, but the portion was very small for the price. The hen of the woods mushrooms weren’t my favorite (likely a texture thing for me, my husband enjoyed them), and dessert felt like something we could have skipped.
The only reason I took off a star was the pricing. While the food was good, the prices felt a bit steep for what we received, especially given the small portion sizes on some dishes.
Overall, it was a lovely birthday dinner with excellent service and memorable food.
Unfortunately, it turned out to be my “end-of-year disappointment”…
When you walk in, the space itself is quite cute and cozy, and the overall service was fine. Those are probably the only real positives.
After that, everything started to feel questionable. The two of us spent close to $300, which is extremely expensive, yet the food quality made it very hard to understand where this pricing comes from.
The only dish that was somewhat acceptable was the salad. The ingredients were fresh, and the fruit was sweet, which gave it a slight boost, but portion-wise it was minimal and overall very ordinary. Other than the salad, the rest of the dishes were honestly so average that there isn’t much to say.
The server suggested that we order three appetizers, one side dish, two pasta dishes, and one meat dish, emphasizing that each portion was very small. That recommendation already felt strange for just two people. Thankfully, we were cautious and only ordered a salad, one small appetizer, two pastas, and one lamb main. Even then, we couldn’t finish the food. I genuinely don’t understand why we were advised to order so much!
Now for the food. Their highly recommended fettuccine was confusing from the very first bite. I couldn’t tell if the overly soft, almost mushy texture was intentional or a mistake. Regardless, the flavor was disappointing, it tasted like something you’d cook at home with a jarred sauce, with zero depth or complexity. The lasagna, which included fresh cherry tomatoes, was slightly better and at least had one noticeable element, but overall it was still very standard and forgettable.
The lamb was extremely dry. The potatoes and side vegetables served with it didn’t come together at all, and the more I ate, the more unpleasant it felt. As for the small fried appetizer, the rancid oil smell was shocking. You could smell it as soon as it hit the table, and it completely killed my appetite.
We also ordered one glass of red wine and one cocktail. Both were overpriced and tasted completely ordinary, absolutely not worth the cost.
Overall, the experience was deeply unsatisfying. At this price point, serving Italian food of this quality is simply unacceptable. The atmosphere and service do not make up for the food at all.
Appetizers:
Chicory salad was good—dressing was on the acidic side but quite refreshing (although I do have a palate for high acidity foods)
Vitello tonnato—very small portion. Would expect a bit more from this dish (garnishes, portion size) but the flavor was overall ok.
Chicken liver crostini—this was my favorite appetizer. The balsamic cherries really balanced out the fattiness of the liver.
Main:
Only ordered the fettuccine but it was a BIG disappointment. The pasta was extremely soft and overcooked to a point where you can break it with your lips. The portion was also quite small and the presentation looked like you cooked it yourself.
And yet it costs $36.
Service was alright although servers could work on remembering the correct orders
The pasta was such a letdown bringing the overall rating to a 3.
Spent ~$200 for two but it really felt like I cooked at home (made some small apps) and accidentally overcooked my pasta
So why is this restaurant so hyped and pricey again?
EDIT: found dinner to be good, but very expensive for what it is (i never mind to spend money on food, but i’d hope its sensible)
I think the spaghetti, risotto, and crudo are very good.
I am more inclined to have lunch here over dinner
We ordered the Mushroom Bruschetta, Fava Bean Purée, Insalata Borgo, and the Chicken Milanese which turned out to be the perfect lineup for two guys grabbing lunch. The sourdough was fresh and soft with a perfectly crunchy exterior. Compliments to the chef and the whole team. Scott R. was especially accommodating, and our waitress, whose name I unfortunately forget, was incredibly knowledgeable and wonderful to interact with.
Looking forward to returning for dinner. One small suggestion: since the printed menu has limited descriptions, it’s helpful when servers are extra informed about each dish. Ours absolutely was informed.
Highly recommend.
If you go… Have the chicken liver pate. Hands down one of the most amazing and flavorful dishes I’ve experienced in a long time! While the rest of the food was wonderful and delicious I’d go back for the pate! Second in this delightful meal was the Fried Delicata Squash, unexpected in its presentation and delicate flavor!
We waited a long time before anyone came to ask what we wanted to drink. The appetizer salad we ordered was extremely sour and unbalanced. My husband ordered the lobster risotto, which was served on a very plain, shallow plate and looked quite underwhelming. The lobster was very broken up, and the flavor was strong in a way that clearly tasted like canned lobster, not fresh. I later noticed other reviews mentioning the same issue.
It’s really hard to understand how a dish like this can cost around $40. It honestly made me feel misled.
We also waited a very long time for our main courses, and even after reminding the server, it still took a long time to arrive.
The only positive thing about this restaurant is the environment. We won’t be coming back. Overall, the food quality felt very unprofessional for a restaurant at this price point.
It can get a bit noisy sometimes, but that’s just part of being one of the top restaurants in the U.S., according to the New York Times. The service is on point, the interior has a cozy vibe, like chilling in a big Italian house by the fireplace.
The best part is the courtyard with its cute little fountain, which is a great place to have dinner. Since Borgo is getting more popular, finding a table is a challenge. Good luck with that!
