Service was great and the vibe was cool. Even though the booth we sat at had a beat up table, I still felt a community comfort. We ordered our food and it looked amazing! My son ordered the prime rib tacos and I ordered the ring leader burger. The food looked absolutely amazing! We both took a bite at the same time and stopped. The amount of salt that was used in our food was obscene. My son ate one taco and stopped and I dissected my burger and ate what I could. After being in food service, I did not blame the server and left him a tip but he realized something was wrong when we refused to go boxes. I should have read the room when we arrived because when we were leaving, nobody in the place had meals, only drinks and one table had a dessert. A horrible food experience. Not a place I would order food.

I really didn’t want to have to write this, but here we are.
I had been looking forward to Bootleggers opening because it’s right in my neighborhood. The first week they opened, I decided to go check it out. While I was sitting in the parking lot, something crossed my mind that I might be one of the only Black people in there. I brushed it off and went in anyway.
They found me a seat, and I sat down by myself in the middle of the restaurant. After sitting there for a while, a waiter finally came up and asked what I wanted. I asked what they had, and he acted like he didn’t know, handed me a menu, and walked off.
I looked around and saw everyone else mingling and being taken care of, while I was just sitting there waiting. About 15 minutes later he came back and asked what I wanted. I ordered three fish with fries — and make that twice, since I was bringing food home for my wife. Then he asked what I wanted to drink. I said a strong IPA. He acted like he didn’t know what I was talking about. Later he comes back with a Michelob and says, “This is for you.” That’s not what I ordered. But at that point I just wanted to drink it and get out of there.
I waited another 20 minutes for the food. Before bringing it out, he said they didn’t have containers ready for my order and were trying to find some. When I finally got the food, it didn’t even look like what I ordered, but I trusted it was right and left. I still left a $10 tip because that’s just what I do.
When I got home, it wasn’t my order at all. Completely wrong — just like the beer.
After waiting so long for this place to open and being excited to support a neighborhood restaurant, this was beyond disappointing. The service felt off from the beginning, and whether intentional or not, I walked away feeling unwelcome and disrespected.
My wife told me I should go back and say something. I decided I won’t. I just won’t be going back.
I hope management sees this and does better. Everyone deserves to feel respected when they spend their money somewhere.

Overall, I liked this place. I liked that they didn’t skimp on food for the price. I like the unique options. I enjoyed the taste of the food and my kids ate their kids meals, which is a really good sign. The service was done right. A downer was that we felt a bit gross after eating. Maybe we ordered too many fried options with the fried pickles/asparagus, fried fish tacos, french fries, and tater tots, etc. The kids ate sliders and chicken nuggets (the nuggets did seem like the freezer kind which is a bummer). My wife ordered a guacamole burger and it was great, but extremely messy. If you’re looking for fried food, messy food, or comfort foods then this might be the place for you. I will return, though perhaps not too often.

Really nice quality food, you dont get that a lot here in Bakersfield. Got the fish and chips and the quality is on par with a lot of the best resturants on the coast that I love. Tacos were good too. Nice place overall.

Went for breakfast and drinks with my lady. I had the “Karen” omelet and she had the bacon and eggs with country potatoes. I had a long Island ice tea and she had the mimosa flight. Drinks were great food was good

It’s so great to have a neighborhood pub like this in our area. The serving staff is very friendly and attentive. They checked in on us at the right times and didn’t hover around. The bar is well stocked with good whiskey. The food was terrific! I had the “Vegetarian… not” burger(pictured below) with extra crispy fries. The atmosphere is really good and the music is great. The one thing that doesn’t really add to the atmosphere were the TV’s with sports playing on it. The environment didn’t need it. The sports just seemed like a distraction. There was a ton of people in there that were laughing, talking and having a great time. This pub could be on it’s way to becoming the “Cheers” of this neighborhood. I’m interested to see how it plays out. All in all, I’m absolutely coming back.
