We were sat on the patio, which we requested, the guy who sat us was great, he moved an umbrella to make sure we were in the shade, since it was the hottest part of the day we were thankful. We perused the menu.
Tacos come in packs of 2, 3, or 9. Huh? Why can’t we just order each taco that we want? And why does it go 2,3 then 9? Why is there no 4 pack? 2, 4, and 8 would make WAY more sense. Then we do the math, each taco is like $5-6!!!! Whaaat? No wonder it’s hidden under the multiple packs, that come with nothing by the way, no rice… or beans, or chips… did I mention you have to pay for chips?
So we decide to try the Brazilian Cheesy Bread (which was odd to see here but okay) and then the guacamole fries. The standout of the visit was the cheesy bread. The guacamole fries were cheap and definitely not worth the $12.50 price. That should have been way under $10.
We ordered two ranch waters and they came out without sparkling water, like they used still water, so they were bland. My husband asked on his second one for sparkling water and it still came out with flat water.
Then the tacos came. Uneventful. The steak was okay, but tough, and no sauces or possibility of sauces were provided. The Tinga tasted like cheap tomato sauce, and the Al Pastor was not like any Al Pastor that I have ever tasted. Everything was just bland. Forgetful. We added plantains as a side for $3. The plantains were great but please do not put sour cream and onions on them, that’s weird and it tasted weird.
Our server was fine, kind of strange. When my husband ordered our drinks she just went OKAY abruptly and walked away. It did appear she was covering a lot of tables so maybe she was in the weeds. She was fine.
Our bill came and it was $82. Whaaaat? We had two appetizers, shared a 3 count Taco, and I had one drink and my husband had two drinks. There is no planet in this world that should have been that much! $50 would have seemed fair since we had 3 drinks. But a ranch water is usually a pretty cheap cocktail which is why we ordered that.
This was my first and absolute last visit to this establishment. There is nothing aside from the atmosphere that was repeatable. The food needs work and the menu needs reworking, allow people to order tacos one at a time and adjust your prices, tacos should be $3-5, the higher price of course for the more expensive meats.
The value for what I spent just wasn’t there.
I switched to an Old Fashioned, but it arrived late and was filled with ice instead of the classic single cube. I even had to ask the waiter to get the drink made because the bartenders were busy chatting instead of making orders.
The food tasted pretty good, but the service was a huge letdown. Not sure if they were short-staffed or just disorganized.
The only thing I didn’t appreciate was that for Taco Tuesday, it wasn’t marked on the menu, there wasn’t a list available, of which tacos were included. I had to flag down my waiter and ask him.
Otherwise, like I said, one of the great spots to have a street taco in a sit-down restaurant vibe. If you don’t know, now you know.
My only issue was that the music was too loud and I felt myself having to yell and strain my ears to hear. Gwen was awesome and everyone who brought something out to us was extremely attentive and helpful. Definitely plan to come back.
