Down-to-earth restaurant turning out traditional German dishes in alpine-inspired surrounds.

Bodensee Restaurant is hands-down the best German food we’ve ever had in the U.S.!
Everything was outstanding: the Bavarian Pork Roast was melt-in-your-mouth tender with perfect gravy, the Beef Rouladen with red cabbage was pure authenticity, and the Chicken Chef Schnitzel (topped with Swiss cheese and that incredible creamy mushroom-onion sauce and served with roasted potatoes) was absolutely next-level delicious. We also loved the Goulash Soup, French Onion Soup, and the smoked sausage with sauerkraut – every dish was spot-on.
Portions are huge, flavors are rich and genuine, and the alpine ambiance makes you feel like you’re in Bavaria. Finished with their classic cheesecake and the legendary carrot cake… both were phenomenal!
Service was warm and attentive, and the quality is worth every penny. Already planning our next trip back. If you’re in Helen, this place is an absolute MUST. 10/10!

Visited this Bodensee for lunch and had a great experience! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff made me feel right at home. The food was excellent—I ordered the trout as my main dish and it tasted fantastic. I also tried the snail, which was a nice surprise. Of course, I had to have some German beer, and I loved it! I’m from Atlanta, and this place is definitely worth coming back to. Highly recommend!

First time trying German food and it was a great experience. Great food, great service, and cool vibes all around. We got the potato pancakes, Brie with vegetables, goulash, and Pork schnitzel. Taste was very delicious but the schitnzel and pancakes were slightly dry for me but still very good. Would come back again.

The food here is SO good! It’s comforting and so filling. We tried the pretzel, potato pancakes, goulash soup, and sourbraten. Apple strudel for dessert. 10/10 for everything, and wish I lived closer so I could visit again soon. Our server was very kind and friendly! I believe her name was Heather – she was on the beer garden side and wearing black cat/moon earrings. Thanks so much for being so welcoming 🙂

The good thing was the food, but we had to do some struggle before getting to it.
Line outside was long, but moved quickly (I feel it could move even faster if staff was managing job better)
We got a very nice table, and sat there for about 10 min – no menu or water was provided. Asked passing waiter to give us a menu. Then another 10-15 min passed by and no one came. The waiter who gave a menu, started literally ignoring us. I went back to hostess desk asking to find out server, and turns out that the lady who was responsible for our table, thought that someone else is…. But she was serving tables near us, as well as the one who gave us menus. I think it’s just weird, that both of them ignores the fact that we are sitting without the service, and didn’t question “whose table this is”.
After we finally ordered, food arrived in 45 min. Which is okay, because it was cooked well, and fresh. But total time between we got at the table and started the meal was over 80 min.Since we were hungry, and all other places had long lines as well, we decided to wait until the end, lol.
Idk if I ever want to go back, probably during slower time.

I’m here on a surprise Christmas vacation and just came here and my doggo, Buddy was really happy there were around 5 other dogs here at the same time. I’m a cheese lover so I always get anything cheese and I definitely LOVE the Spätzle Gratin. It’s like Mac n cheese but better. Definitely get the hot chocolate and the pretzel appetizer also. Those are the best!

Authentic German food at its finest – oh yeah! When hungry, head to Bodensee = bon Appétit. They have it all, from Schnitzels to Schweinebratten, fresh Mountain Trout to Beef Rolls (Rouladen), & Goulash to Escargot. Pick your favorite sauce & side. I enjoyed the Wurst Platter w saurkraut & pan-fried potatoes. 3 different Wursts; my favorite is the chef made Garlic Wurst. The Garlic Wurst is homemade and smoked in their smoke shed. The recipe is a family tradition from Chef Aurel’s grandfather. Ask to add a garlic wurst to your dinner plate. Many top- shelf German beers on Draft, I like the Schofferhofer w Grapefruit (lower alcohol). Located behind Wendy’s across from Helendorf Inn.

We have been eating here for 15 years and have always enjoyed it. I am sad to see they don’t serve the side salad anymore with your meal but we got the sampler platter and everything was so good. Great huge beers and an authentic German lady to meet you at the door and lots of German decor. Every time they come by they have expanded and this is no exception with a huge beer garden where the parking lot used to be.
