As for the potato skins, the were more akin to a half-end baked potato with all the toppings; making less greasy; so that was a plus.
As for the chowder? It was pretty flavorsome, although a little gluppy…. but not bad!! Although the chowder was not on par with Lure’s (thats had to beat).
The venue was pub-like in that it was dark and smelled of beer but the harborside location was fab.
Overall everything was fairly priced, service was good. I would definitely come back and try this place for dinner.
The Boatyard Pub at Ventura Harbor is one of my favorite spots! The atmosphere is laid-back with a beautiful harbor, and the service always makes you feel welcome. Their happy hour from 4–6 is perfect for relaxing with a drink and some bites, and the Wednesday steak and lobster dinner is incredible—definitely a midweek highlight. Great food, great vibes, and a place I always look forward to coming back.
For breakfast, the huevos rancheros, the chicken fried steak and eggs, the burritos (there’s some heft there), the omelets are all in my rotation. For lunch and dinner, try the parmesian beef tacos, the fish and chips, the steak. The clam chowder is the best in the harbor. My favorite appetizer is the balsamic glazed Brussels sprouts.
A party of 3, including myself, walked in during a busy night and asked for a table. Both the bartender and a server looked at each other and one said how they close the kitchen in an hour. We asked if we could still get a table and one said sure, but we close soon.
Honestly, as a first impression it was really disappointing, because we saw photos on Google and they really looked good! We were looking forward to eating here.
We were sat and our server was friendly, definitely not like those other two.
Food was excellent. Hot brewed coffee was great for the cold night! ☕️ Coffee mugs were super unique. Steamed clams were my favorite with the white wine broth, fresh parsley and lemon! Fish and chips were breaded perfectly. Shrimp and chips were large and delicious!
Poor service made the atmosphere feel not so enjoyable. Some employees definitely come off like they don’t want to be there.
Obviously they were understaffed and had a line of waiting patrons out the door, so I appreciate that, however— nothing excuses making someone wait an hour to pay their bill, it’s like being held hostage, it’s very frustrating, and it’s unacceptable.
I do not blame the wait staff, but the management, this was a complete failure in terms of what a restaurant experience should be.
That’s not even getting into the fact that my plate was missing items it was supposed to come with that I paid for…
When I went to find SOMEONE to process my bill, they tried to send me to the bar to have it settled.
I sympathize greatly with the staff who work here, if this is how paying customers are treated, I can only imagine the workers…
