Bateau and Boat Bar to Reopen Soon as Jeffry’s – WhatNow
Reviews
We ordered oysters (a must!) and three other dishes to share. It felt it was a good amount for a couple. The tartare was delicious, and the scallops—while they looked a little odd—tasted great with a unique mix of flavors. The cauliflower, though, was a letdown—bland and mushy, definitely something we could have skipped. Same with the dessert; it didn’t really stand out.
If you go, I’d recommend sticking to the oysters and “sea creatures”(turumtz).
The place definitely has a great summer vibe, so I’d love to come back during warmer weather. Just make sure to bring a jacket if you’re visiting in the fall—it was pretty cold! Overall, I enjoyed it, and the dishes are creative and always great to try. The chef Renee Erickson never disappoints.
Unfortunately, the bread pudding, which used to be amazing, was a disappointment—cold, stale, and lacking the depth of flavor it once had. It’s a shame to see a once-stellar dish lose its magic.
Overall, the atmosphere and service are still solid, but I can’t shake the feeling that things are slipping. Ms. Erickson, please bring back the love that made this place great! There’s still so much to love here, but a little extra care could bring Boat Bar back to its former glory.
Overall a great place to check out.
The oysters are great, they clean them well no shells pieces at all. Surprisingly the burger is a hit, must try.
They have a small kitchen, so food is served as they are ready like tapa style. The highlight for us was definitely the vanilla clams and the beef tartar perfect balance of flavours and fresh ingredients.
The only downfall was servers seemed a bit overwhelmed, but still well composed. The server for our table changed a few times, but hand over was a bit rocky. It was hard to flag a server, so we forgoed an extra bottle of wine since we were almost done with all our food by the time we got a hold of one.
Overall, decent experience and great food maybe just a bit optimization required on the operational front.
The restaurants under the Sea Creatures brand certainly do not disappoint and Bar Melusine is no exception. We ordered a few drinks and ate our dinner here to try out much of the menu. We enjoyed the frites as they were fried to classic Belgium style and fully of flavor. I also enjoyed the lamb and oysters. The lamb tasted very much like pastrami, but combined with the aioli it was divine.
I’ll start by saying that the oysters were incredible. So fresh and generally delicious. The vibe inside was relatively chill/quiet which was nice, and aesthetically the white & turquoise played into a really pleasant ambiance.
We also tried the prawns dish and it just wasn’t for us. It was a bit too savory and at that price per prawn, I would’ve much rather just gotten more oysters (especially during HH). They had lots of small plates that sounded good, so I’m sure there’s something for everyone… but for premium prices, I’d prefer not to feel like the menu might be hit-and-miss. This came as a surprise/disappointment to me, as I have loved trying different Sea Creatures restaurants when in the Seattle area.
I know I referenced price above, but it is fair to note that premium experiences tend to come with premium prices.
Therefore, fresh (delicious) oysters come at market prices (as you’d assumed). For those wondering… my guess would be that their selection likely ranges between $4-6 per oyster (depending on what they’re serving). Our Sippican oysters, for example, were on the higher end at $5 per ($4 with HH).
Their Happy Hour goes from Open (5pm) to 6pm, and offers $1 off oysters, beer, wine and house cocktails. This is DEFINITELY something to take advantage of if you plan to come to try a selection of their oysters, as the $1 off each oyster really adds up!
I’d come back – I just likely would stick to HH oysters and play it safe
