Bo Lings Chinese Restaurant has been serving Kansas City diners since 1981. This family-owned, award-winning restaurant has 5 locations across the metro area with three in Kansas and two in Missouri. In the popular shopping mecca of Zona Rosa slightly west of Barry Road and I-29 (and just across from Old Navy), this Bo Lings proves our reputation for fine Chinese dining once again. The high ceilings strung with modern Chinese lanterns, cozy booths, and round tables create a contemporary Chinese dining experience.

Most servers were friendly and personable except one girl who barely acknowledged you when asked what item she was throwing down onto the table.
*Beware that they have regular priced entree items on their Dim Sum menu and they are a lot more $$.
Not sure why they do this when they also give you an actual menu?? It totally threw off our bill as many in our party were dupped when ordering off the Dim Sum menu and didn’t realize special pricing until it was too late. Sly tactic on restaurants’ part so patrons be alert!
Besides that, our party enjoyed the food and private dining area.
I’m vegetarian, and have additional dietary restrictions, so I was very excited when I saw the extensive “Vegetable/Vegetarian” section on the dinner menu. I called beforehand to verify that no seafood or animal broths were used, and was told that many of the items marked as vegetarian DO contain either Oyster Sauce, Chicken Stock, or Fish Sauce, but that I would just need to check with my server for accomodations.
When dining, I verified with my server that the Sichuan Green Beans could be made vegan, and that I could add crispy tofu to it. My food came within 10 minutes, I was told they had to remake it because “they messed up on your fried tofu”, and when the runner arrived with my dish, the tofu was marinated and steamed instead. I checked with the runner to make sure that the marinated tofu had no animal products, and kept the dish because it was getting late. It was fine, the sauce was a soy sauce, chili, and green onion mixture and the green beans were still a little crispy and very garlicky.
When I checked in with my server at the end of the meal and brought up that I hadn’t received what I ordered I got a “oh sorry about that”, and was still charged full price. I’m a little disappointed because I was excited to try the crispy tofu, I had high hopes for it being really good.
I really wish the written menu had distinctions for what items contain fish and shellfish in the sauces, because they’re such common allergens. This is somewhere that’s fine as a group compromise choice if no one can decide where else to eat, but not somewhere I’ll end up making part of my rotation.
The staff customized a couple dishes to work with a dietary restriction, and the service was fast and friendly. A great choice for lunch or dinner.
The staff can make some dishes more or less spicy if you ask.
I went here for a first date, for the first time and I would definitely recommend this location for a meet and greet or business or family gathering. It is in close proximity to so many other department stores and events within walking distance.
