Insane value on Happy Hour Sunday. Amazing service and ambiance. Jess and Ian were awesome behind the bar. Whatever you do, you have to try the Itchy Salmon Nigiri – best bite of sushi I’ve ever had.

I visited Blue Sushi Sake Grill in River North with a friend and was really impressed. This spot is way more visually stunning than your average sushi place. The ceiling covered in glowing red lanterns creates such a cool, immersive vibe that immediately pulls you in (it’s definitely a spot you’ll want to photograph).

We came for weekday happy hour which runs until 6:30 p.m. and that alone makes this place worth visiting. Happy hour sushi in River North is rare, so being able to try a variety of rolls at a great price was a huge win. We ordered a bunch of sushi, including some crispy rolls, and everything tasted fresh and flavorful. I also loved the refreshing touch of cucumber slices in the water. Small detail, but it elevates the whole experience.

The staff was friendly, the ambiance was fun without being too loud, and overall it’s a great place for a casual dinner, date night, or a group hang — especially if you love a spot with a strong aesthetic.

I’d definitely return to try more rolls next time!

Really nice selection of vegan sushi with happy hour deals you can’t beat. Recommend going with friends and getting a bunch of different sushi to eat. Desserts are also pretty tasty, huge fan of the lychee mochi.

We have been here a couple of times, happy hour all day on Sundays which is awesome. The service is very fast, there are 4 sushi chefs behind the bar rolling them out with lighting speed regardless how much you order and how busy they are. I would say 95% of the sushi rolls on the menu are very good, fresh fish, fresh veggies and perfect balance of flavors. I think the sushi rice needs a little more vinegar but not bad. Personally I don’t like the Yellowtail Serrano, it is very bland.
The appetizers were 50/50 for me. The Crispy Rice Cake was very good, fresh tuna and crispy rice, the Lettuce Wrap is very generous is portion, tasty chicken, fresh butter lettuce, but I didn’t really get the sesame noodles because it is not a normal lettuce wrap ingredient. It is good to eat on the side though. The biggest disappointment was the Mango Crab Rangoons, they were deepfried to perfection, the Mango plum sauce was gritty, good balance of sweet and sour, but the cream cheese filling has no flavor whatsoever. There’s chive in there, but I didn’t really see any imitation crab meat, these is no garlic taste, there’s no tang either, not enough sour cream, no Worcestershire sauce nor jalapeno.
The menu ends here basically, there are no kitchen menu offerings, no noodles, no rice, which would be good to have at end of the meal to warm up a bit.
The weirdest thing is, I don’t understand the orange lantern lighting that covers 90% of the restaurant, because you can’t see what you are eating because everything is orange. This is why I couldn’t post the pictures from our first visit. Just request to sit by the wall.
We will be back for more that is for sure.
