I went in on a Tuesday afternoon and was greeted with the warm smell of incense and calming music. It’s a perfect place to relax and enjoy tea alone or with a group. I got the self service which allowed me to brew to my preferred strength but they also have a full service option so you don’t have to do any work. The prices were incredibly reasonable for the quality of the tea. I will be coming back!

Quite possibly the best chai latte I’ve ever had in the most relaxing atmosphere. The smells, the sounds of the water trickling and the sunshine through the window. I cannot bottle it up and take it home, but I would in a heartbeat.

I love this place! Stumbled across it with a friend today a bit near closing time, but the employee was kind enough to serve us and allow us some time to bask in the beautiful environment. It was so peaceful and our drinks were delicious. My friend has been to China and said she felt as if she’d been transported there. I can’t wait to go back!

The atmosphere here is so peaceful and time almost seems to slow down. The staff did a great job with the decor, the background noise, and even the scents. The tea was spot on. We ordered the White Pear, Jasmine, and Indian Chia in the full service option. I would highly recommend all three but my favorite was probably the Chia. One of my favorite things was the creamer was all non dairy. As someone who doesn’t do dairy it made the experience so much easier. The staff explained everything to us and made the whole experience enjoyable. They even came around to our table to check and make sure we had everything we needed and we’re enjoying ourselves.

EDIT: Given that Jesse & Kim have updated their Menu, I find it only fitting to update my review (and images).

In the time since my initial review, my wife and I have come to be very close with the owners at the Blue Lantern Tea House and have enjoyed the environment, teas, and company here at this amazing establishment. We come here often to drink tea, play games, and simply relax. In the past years, this place has become like a second home to us and we’ve tried EVERYTHING on the menu until the new updates!

Thank you Jesse & Kim for being such wonderful people!

Changes: A Serving of Tea is $5 as opposed to the Tin, Dei, Yan.

Iced Teas are popular here now and special teas are added as limited-time options every so often!

***Original Review Below***

Today, my fiancee and I visited Blue Lantern Tea House for our first time. We were greeted by the owner, Jesse. As he welcomed us into the aesthetically relaxing tea house, he explained some of the customs of traditional Tea Houses and how those traditions compared to the Blue Lantern Tea House. We sat down and our menus were brought to us. While we expected the visit to be more like a “Shop”, it operated as a Tea House in which customers choose a small pot of tea that they wish to have, and it is brought out in a small heated pot and a small teacup is provided. Both the cups and the pots were really interesting to see and admire. The owner explained that the Tea House operates as a “Membership”. Each Membership level includes three categories with varying prices, highest being Tin (Heaven) Level, medium being Yan (Human) Level, and lowest being Dei (Earth) Level. A Day Membership covers one serving (one pot of Tea). A Week Membership Covers 5 Servings. And a Month Membership covers 20 servings. The prices vary based on which Level of “Membership” you choose (Tin, Yan, or Dei). We chose to just pay for two Day Servings, which is about the price of paying for a Pot of Tea at a Tea House. The prices were really fair. At first understanding the Menu was a tad confusing, but once we understood the differences between the Tin, Yan, and Dei levels, we understood it better.
The Menu shows a wide variety of teas, ranging from white, to Green, to Black and in between. Each tea is given a level, Tin, Yan, or Dei, which determines the cost of that tea in a serving. For example, we each chose our own serving of the Golden Monkey Tea, which is a Tin Level of Membership. That means that a serving of this tea is $6, as are all Tin Level Teas (very fair for this quality of tea and portion).
Before making our selection, we talked with Jesse at length about various teas, discussing different brewing methods/steeping methods, different tea pots, and different tea origins and styles. After talking at length with Jesse, it was very clear that he know a lot about teas, the history of certain teas, the cultures and regions, etc. It was very clear that he not only had an interest in Tea, but in giving great customer service and being eager to serving people in the community. So in short, the atmosphere, the service, the owner… all really awesome! But let’s take the real reason people come to the Blue Lantern Tea House: The Tea. With so much variety, it was hard to choose. We sat and talked and even continued having conversation with the owner for quite some time while we each finished our pot. Before paying, we decided to leave with a bag of tea to take home!
Overall experience, 5/5 Stars.

Thanks Jessie!

I’m suffering because it has been 8 days since I was last at Blue Lantern Tea (I don’t live in the area right now). And I’m not just missing the chai and matcha lattes, although I miss those plenty; I’m missing the peaceful ambience and the lovely employees. It matters a lot to have a place that helps a person feel GOOD by the time they leave—and this place does just that.
Oh, I should add that I refused to stop by for a long time because I “didn’t drink tea.” One visit made me realize that I not only drink tea, I drink tea every single day, as long as it’s here.
