My wife and I enjoyed a really great lunch here, our first visit. They’ve done an excellent renovation on the building from the days as the College Cafe, and our meals were outstanding, fresh and hot. The staff was upbeat, helpful, and accommodating. My Taco Navajo with green chile was delicious and very filling, and my wife’s Chicken Fajitas arrived steaming , with fabulous aroma and flavor.
We were cheerfully provided with a sample of their red chile sauce, and it is also delicious. I’m looking forward to having some of the red sauce on enchiladas on our next visit, which will be soon!
Update 1/28/26 : returned for breakfast, once again our meals were scrumptious!

First time eating here, LOVE the Carne Adovada and the Huevos Rancheros! Fresh piping hot tortillas were a bonus. Great to have a new breakfast place in Durango.

I love how they refurbished the place with decorations that go with the season. The staff are nice and welcoming, always checked in with us every once in a while. Not to mention, the food was spectacular and kudos to the chef who made. Such a wonderful place and I cannot wait to come back again!

Green chile sauce has the perfect flavor profile, AND it’s gluten free! The carne adovada was very flavorful, and the pork was so tender. We could eat their beans as a meal—very nicely flavored, with just enough spice. The hash browns are lovely—perfectly cooked. Everything we had was well-cooked, and our server was super attentive to dietary needs and substitutions, despite them being under-staffed. This is our new breakfast spot.

A far cry from College Drive. Omelettes were just scrambled eggs flipped over, and barely edible. I’ve done a nice job renovating, they’ve got to improve the kitchen or they will never last.

The space strikes a balance between cozy and modern, with warm lighting, wood accents, and an open kitchen that adds a lively energy without being noisy. It feels welcoming whether you’re there for a casual dinner or something a little more special. Service was friendly and attentive, especially impressive for a restaurant still in its early days. Staff were happy to explain menu items and made the experience feel relaxed rather than rushed.

It’s rare that I leave reviews but I was beyond impressed with everything today at Blue Bear from the food to the service. ☺️ Coffee was hot and good, I had their chicken enchiladas and my sister had the egg plate with a steak, so gooood and cooked to perfection! You also have to think prices, for the quality of their food, it’s ABSOLUTELY worth it and quite inexpensive compared to most places in Durango. Waitress and busboy were so attentive, even during their rush, they made sure to check on everyone!!
Whoever renovated the place did a fantastic job, hugeee upgrade over the old place! I give a plus to the ambiance and decor. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone in Durango, definitely my number one breakfast spot going forward. Good job Blue Bear!
