Stopping by to pick up a to-go order is worth it over the convenience of a drive through like tacobell for me, which i’d be paying 10-20$ at anyway.
Love this spot and the port orchard location as well!
Also, amazing salsa.
So, I decided to venture into Mexican Restau in the Gig Harbor area after reading some reviews.
Food:
In my opinion, portions are generous and perfect for sharing. Presentation is pretty basic. Now, if you dissect the BA Cali burrito, you’ll find more fries than meat with three medium shrimps. They should call it the “super stuffed fries burritoway.”
The sopes don’t quite hit the mark for Mexican food, but they’ll do. They come in a large portion, enough to make two meals out of them.
Chips and salsa didn’t show up automatically like at other places. No one asked, and our server didn’t bother to check if we needed more. Probably an extra charge. But hey, the salsa was delicious and tasted fresh.
I love the condiment section, where you can mix and match. And for soda refills, you’re on your own.
There’s also a small bar area, though I’m not sure if they do happy hour.
Service:
Our waitress was this tall, gorgeous brunette, but her personality was as lively as the walking dead. She seemed to be on autopilot, just waiting for us to place our orders so she could clock out. She barely did the basics. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but seriously, you’re in the food biz—you gotta have some source of energy. I honestly should’ve just stayed home cuz It felt like my family and I were a burden to her. Ever get that vibe from your servers? And then they expect a handsome tip for their basic service. This place is definitely going on my “Fridays NOT TO RECOMMEND and GO TO” list.
Recommendations:
If you’re headed this way, Puerto Vallarta Restaurant is the move. Better service and slightly better food.
Wasn’t sure if we needed to order at the counter or if we were going to be getting service from a server or not. Turns out it’s both. We found a dirty table & the server eventually got to us. You get your own drink at the entrance. Once food was ordered it came out right away.
Had quesadillas, chicken taquitos, chile rellenos, & roasted corn. I’m a big fan of roasted corn, but this one wasn’t my favorite. I would have preferred it maybe spicier & more flavor. The rest of the food was okay/good.
It is amazing. Be sure you have your phone ready to take a video shot the fajita as it is served, quietly focus on vegetables to record it sizzling, when I show this video, friends say, “Where is this place?!”
Once you pour on its pinto beans, pico de gio and rice, mix in, the plate becomes so much, it is enough for two. This is a must have experience, I assure you.
Spread guacamole on a corn tortilla, put your mixed fajita in, fold in for a soft taco, as you bite in, chewing your eyes roll up like a shark taking a bite.
