At Blackhole Bakery, we’re specializing in and serving classic French pastries and donuts, along with some locally-roasted coffee and tea. We offer the only Mochi donuts in the midwest at the moment, and our customers seem to also love our brioche cinnamon rolls, croissants, and the variety of other puff pastries we make. Everything is made from scratch in-house so you know you’re only getting the best when you walk in. Blackhole Bakery works from a first come first serve basis. If you’re interested in large group orders, please contact us.

It’s walk-in and carryout, and everything is consistently excellent -croissants that are actually flaky, mochi donuts with the perfect chew, and flavors that are dynamic and fun. Some of the flavor combos might sound a little obscure at first, but trust them and take a walk on the wild side… let your hair down, gurl!
Nothing here feels overhyped or gimmicky. Just really good pastries made by people who clearly know what they’re doing!
I leave happy every time and already planning my next visit because once you’re pulled into this black hole, there’s no escaping it!

Now, I can understand why BHB might not be for everyone.
1) You will not find a traditional donut here. The texture of the mochi donuts are chewy, moist, and dense – that might not be your style, but if you like mochi, you’ll like these!
2) If you want a simple and consistent menu, you probably need to look elsewhere. Some options will stay for a while, but every flavor or topping has the potential to be cycled out.
3) The service is efficient and polite, and no one has ever rushed me when I was pondering what to get. I have no problem with this at all!! But some folks might want a place where you get to develop a close relationship with the staff and other customers. BHB isn’t really meant for that – sometimes there’s just one person behind the counter and a long line of folks to help, so there isn’t time to chat. Also, there isn’t any seating here, so once you get your food, you’re out the door. This is convenient if you’re on the go, but you might want to know more about the place, people, and pastries.
Overall, I would recommend giving BHB a try – the pastries are indeed tasty and fresh, so you just might discover your new favorite bakery!
Now about the goods. The pastries are some of the best I’ve experienced in the KC area. Inventive, aesthetic, and phenomenal in flavor and texture. The croissants rivaled any authentic French patisserie. The blueberry croissant was *chef’s kiss.* The plum galette was beautiful, featured wonderfully ripe, in-season plums, and had a surprise layer of almond paste underneath that really enhanced the flavor of the plums. I’m not a huge frosting person, so I ordered the one without icing—the orange mochi with a sugared exterior—on a whim, and holy wow!! Between the orange flavored sugar on the outside, to the perfectly crispy donut exterior and a delightfully chewy center with what I believe were candied orange peels?? inside made for a truly surprising burst of flavors that I have dreamed about since my last visit. Highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
