The food was very well cooked and a delight to eat.
The service overall was just okay. For the four tables, guests, and number of staff, I would have expected better. We waited for the first drink order of cocktails (over 20 minutes).
When we ordered dessert, we said we’d order hot drinks after. The waitress said, “Oh, they are shutting the coffee machine down (it was only just after 8!!!!) so we had to have the hot drinks at the same time as dessert – it felt like we were being rushed out. We would have probably ordered more hot drinks and another round of port (which was so good, BTW) if it weren’t for feeling like we had to leave – which we did at 9 p.m.
Importantly, the food was really good and worth coming again based on that!
– Batter Fried Squid
Soft, tender and well cooked, the squid were seasoned well, with the thai salad cutting through, introducing zest and freshness to the dish.
– Garlic Bread
For mains it was :
– Lamb Rump
The Lamb had good flavour but seemed a bit dry. The fondant potatoes, carrot and puree were a pleasant addition adding another layer of texture to the mix, but didn’t really lift it beyond mediocrity.
– Surf and Turf
The steak was a bit rough, while the prawns quite bland, a very average dish.
– Chocolate Bavarian, poached pair, cocoa crumble and chocolate ice cream
A lovely desert, with a spectrum of textures sowed into the dish. The soft chocolate ice cream was smooth with the poached pair and the cocoa crumble pairing well.
Had a really lovely lunch with some friends enjoying lovely wine and delicious food.
We decided to order a few different dishes and share for our main. It was a great idea and everything we ordered was fantastic. It also made sure we had room for desert.
We had fantastic friendly and efficient service on the day and will definitely go back.
