I liked Black Ruby. It was our first time here and we had a res on a Saturday night so it was kind of busy. The restaurant is smaller than I imagined but not bad at all. I didn’t think the music matched the vibes very well and I feel like the lighting could be improved, the table we got sat at was very small but we made it work. The drinks were decently good but not what I expected. We got the seasonal chowder, the Caesar salad, larb parm fries, green curry pasta, and the massaman burger. The soup was delicious and we enjoyed it a lot, subtle sweetness but so much flavor. The Caesar wasn’t amazing but it was decent. The larb fries were so good, tangy, sweetness, and slight saltiness making you come back for more. The pasta was a good fusion of flavors, very different. And the burger was a good burger but the curry surprisingly wasn’t special to me. Lastly we got the mango sticky rice dessert and it was very tasty. It was a very well done. Overall I did enjoy everything but I think there could be some improvements. Thank you Black Ruby!

They serve phenomenal Thai-Western fusion dishes! I’d say this was one of the best restaurants I went to during my trip to Boston. I also appreciate how accommodating they are for people with dietary restrictions. We ordered 2 of their burgers and they came out pretty quick. I liked the uniqueness in how they turned a Thai dish into a burger without taking away the authenticity. The seasoning and sauce was just the right amount that it didn’t overpower the chicken and rest of the burger. Staff was responsive and friendly.

MANNNNNNNNN! This place was incredible! Everything my friends got was 10s across the board. Food came out relatively quick as well! I got the massaman burger, quite literally the best burger I have ever had. Service was so sweet and efficient! This place is really packed as they should be! So I do reccomend getting a reservation ahead of time! 🙂 I can’t wait to come back here more often 🙂

I really love the Larb Pork Burger! The pork is juicy, and the sauce has a perfect balance—it’s flavorful without being too rich, making it easy to keep eating. The burger bun has just the right texture—not too soft, not too hard—which makes it stand out from typical burger buns.

I truly appreciate how the restaurant presents Thai food in a creative and modern way while keeping the authentic Thai taste. It’s refreshing, enjoyable, and makes me excited to try Thai food in a whole new form!

This restaurant blew my expectations!! Everything we had was delicious and moderately affordable. The mussels were my favorite dish, the red curry sauce was the best. These were the best mussels I’ve ever had!!! The tom yum shrimp pasta was also incredible and some of the best pasta ive ever had. The mango sticky rice sundae was a perfect way to end the night. I will be returning every chance I get.

Really enjoyed my experience here. The service was nothing special, just the perfect amount of attention. Tried the massman curry – super good concept. The brioche bun was amazing! Def want to try more of their fall menu – especially that dessert!
Great for large and small parties! The desserts and appetizers are all so good

A Creative Thai Fusion Journey!

Black Ruby: Thai Craft Burger is truly a culinary adventure. Every dish I tried felt like a journey through bold creativity and refined Thai flavors. I ordered the burrata mushroom salad, mussels in red curry with rice wine, the Massaman burger, and tom yum shrimp pasta — and every single dish was absolutely amazing and delicious.

The flavor profiles were imaginative yet balanced, showing how much thought goes into their menu. It’s rare to find a place where every plate stands out on its own, but Black Ruby truly delivers.

Even though the shop was very busy during my visit, the staff managed everything smoothly. They were warm, welcoming, and clearly knowledgeable about the menu, which made the experience even better.

I highly recommend this spot — especially for Bostonians who want a great place to host friends, family, or out-of-town guests. It’s the perfect hangout for anyone looking to share unique, adventurous, and unforgettable flavors.

Definitely a must-try!

I’ve had this place on my list for a few months and finally got to check it out before a show tonight in somerville. Super easy to get to from the red line, we parked at alewife for $3 and took a short ride 2 stops to porter square.
Black Ruby features Thai- American fusion. We started with a Thai tea martini and a yuzu drop, both delightful. The larb dumplings were yummy but for the price, a serving of 6 would be nice for sharing.
I tried the Thai PBJ burger which was layered with flavor and had an amazing satay sauce. My hubby had the green curry cream sauce pasta with steak. The sauce was luscious but the steak could have been trimmed better. We also shared the thai scallion fries which were not what we were expecting at all. Sort of like a scallion pancake cut into sticks and fried but with a rice flour texture. Very interesting.
Service did not live up to the food. We didn’t receive our fries with our meals. meals were dropped and we both had empty glasses. We weren’t asked if we needed anything and didn’t get a chance to ask as the server disappeared quickly. I ended up flagging someone down to help us.
Overall the food was unique and flavorful. It seemed they also had options for vegetarian and gluten free folks as well.

The Larb Fries and both Crispy Basil and Massaman burgers are a hit. Rich and flavor-packed. The Tum Yum shrimp pata was also great. Recommend a visit if you’re craving burgers and fries!

Overhyped restaurant. Food is ok but not 4.8 (current rating). Garlic burger is just another restaurant burger. Larb fries are good. Green curry pasta doesn’t taste like curry and is overly fatty. Tom Yom pasta is good but not as good as Tom Yom noodles, the Thai original, so no point to go for the food because the thai versions were better. just go to a Thai restaurant.

Waitresses ate meals and stood together chatting among themselves even though there were a few tables there already and it was hard to get their attention. We had to pile plates ourselves.

Also not sure if they’re trying to use the scarcity effect to boost their desirability but when we left half of the restaurant was still empty even though when we made the reservation those hours were all shown as booked. I have a feeling that a year from now it’s going to be just another restaurant. if even that.
