The inside looks nice. The servers are kind. However they are too busy with those at the bar to properly serve those who are sitting at the high tops. (& YES they do prioritize their inebriated patrons at the bar more than those at the high top!)

My husband & I sat down and ordered waters and proceeded to look at the menu. Immediately we were a bit taken back by the pricing. We had heard decent things so we wanted to give it a try.

My husband ordered the French Dip Steak Sandwich & I ordered the Reuben. The waitress asked us “would you like French fries or coleslaw as the side” NOT would you like to ADD French fries or coleslaw… huge difference. (& while I did not seek out to find a side on the menu as sandwiches generally come with a side at the pricing they have.. the server should have been clear about the fact that they were add-ons and not something that was included!)

The steak sandwich was rather small, my husband complained that the steak looks like it’s from a steak-um box and the French dip au-jous didn’t have much flavor to it. My sandwich was better, however the coleslaw did not taste good. It reminded me of expired mayo. I was very disappointed because I really love coleslaw.

When the bill came that’s when we saw that the French fries and coleslaw (which I didn’t even eat) were ADDED on. This is something that should be clarified prior to ordering. (& yes THIS WAS ON THE WAITRESS! As I said she specifically asked what we wanted as a side, NOT “would you like to add fries?”.

The place is trying to be fancy all while having drunks at the bar that are hitting on one of the waitresses & actively inviting them over. Pick a lane, because that’s crazy. (I wouldn’t have had an issue with this scenario had the waitress herself not committed to going over to hang out, that was incredibly gross to be announcing your future shenanigans with a customer) Our waitress forgot about us several times (this is not up for debate, no amount of information from the owner will change the fact that our waiters simply did not pay attention to us) We ran out of water and another woman had to come over to help… all while the other server was still actively flirting with the bar patrons. I understand some of that is for tips, but it was crazy to hear her telling him she’ll try to go over soon, just not today. Extremely disappointed to see the check, but honestly the food wasn’t anything to write home about to begin with. So I doubt we’ll be heading back there.

(It’s been a long time since we frequented here & To say things are the same is crazy.) Too much has changed since the last owners were here. I really tried to like it, I wanted to like it because it’s a “Thomaston staple”… but I just didn’t. I definitely felt as though my money was wasted (& for the next few days both my husband and I repeatedly made comments about how we regretted our decision to waste our date here.)

Overall, I was not impressed and I’m even more unimpressed with the owners reply because it’s a joke. He can tell himself what he needs to make himself feel better about having expensive food that doesn’t taste good. If you want a delicious steak grinder Main Street Deli in Terryville is DELICIOUS!

OMG! The whole experience was so outstanding that it needs at least two more stars. I had the lobster bisque. It had a whole claw and more. The salmon was perfection and the presentation was absolutely beautiful! My wife had short ribs and they were fabulous! We topped it all off with Crème Brûlée that was to die for. The owners came over to see how we were.
Highly, highly recommend Black Rock Tavern!

This place is a hidden gem! We came with a large group including kids, and the staff went above and beyond to meet our needs. I forgot applesauce for my 2 year old and they actually went to the store to get it for him. We ordered a little bit of everything from the menu and everything we had was delicious. The kids menu was extensive and the full menu has something for everyone. We can’t wait to come back!

Our family attended the nearby garlic festival this morning, and we were looking for a restaurant to eat lunch. A parking attendant from the fair referred us to the Tavern. We couldn’t be any happier with his choice. The service was excellent, and so was the food! I can’t wait to go back again!

Stoped at Black Rock Tavern before our holiday train ride with Santa. Food was ok at best, burgers and fries are good. Not a fan of the Nachos. Service was horrible, had to ask 4x’s for water. Bar order took forever, had to remind our server we didn’t get all of our drinks. Staff were very nice but that didn’t compensate for the service. I’m sure this is a very well liked local location if you sit in the bar, but other than that it’s not very good.

We came in for a visit and found BRT on Google. It’s definitely worth the stop, great atmosphere, and HUGE portions. We didn’t leave hungry. The chicken milanesa was outstanding, as was the stuffed chicken special. We were quite happy making the stop.

I liked it. Tough for me to rate. I hate to give the 3 but there are so many better places that I give 4 so I was stuck. Ordered the NY strip on the black rock. It was good and fun. I have been to the black rock in Vermont several times and I think that one is better. This place is a little dive-bar-ish. The wait staff is very nice and prompt. They kept our beer glasses full. The noise from the bar was pretty loud. I would still come back and am planning to in the next week. The dessert was awesome.

All staff was friendly and nice, our waiter was awesome. I expected more from the food though, based on other reviews. I found my food kind of greasy and I found the mix of flavors a bit eclectic. My husband enjoyed his steak.
