AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Look at my pics. The food was diabolical. Worse Indian food I’ve ever had. The chicken lollypop was disgusting, burnt to a crisp. The chapatis/parathas were ready made frozen ones. Absolutely appalling

As someone who grew up with authentic Indian home cooking, I’m often disappointed by restaurants that call themselves “Indian” yet serve food that tastes nothing like the real thing. Black Pepper Corn is the rare exception—and easily my favourite spot for genuine, close-to-home Indian flavours on the Isle of Wight.

Every dish I’ve tried has been delicious, aromatic, and prepared with the kind of care and authenticity you can only recognise if you’ve grown up with these flavours. The spices are beautifully balanced, the dishes are true to their roots, and the overall taste is exactly what you’d expect from a proper Indian meal. It’s comforting, flavourful, and honestly one of the closest experiences to authentic Indian cuisine you’ll find locally.

Yummy dishes, great taste, and a team that clearly understands what real Indian food should be—Black Pepper Corn is absolutely worth a visit if you want the real thing.

One of the best authentic Indian food takeaway’s I have ever had. Everything we had was so tasty especially the whole tandoori chicken and beef biryani. Really couldn’t fault anything and the owners are so friendly and welcoming. What I do like is the kitchen is open so you can watch them cook and prepare the food. Very well priced.

Fantastic Kerala takeaway! The food is bursting with authentic flavors — perfectly spiced, fresh, and delicious. Portions are generous, packaging is neat, and the service is quick and friendly. Highly recommend for anyone craving real Kerala taste!

Found out about this place just by chance while looking for takeaways around our resort.

Google gave me the wrong opening hours but John went out and beyond by agreeing for the order after he had closed and even waited for nearly 15 mins for us to pick it up.

What a treat we had – the fish biryani was one of the best we have tasted. Long grain basmati rice with well spiced succulent fish pieces with masala!! (Along with raita, pickle and papad)

Wish we could taste more dishes but then it closed the next day (the weekly off).

Waiting for our next Isle of Wight visit!!!

Thank you John!

Finally, authentic Indian food on the Isle of Wight!
After trying several so-called “Indian” restaurants on the island — most of which are actually Bangladeshi-run and serve very different flavours — we were honestly disappointed by the lack of true Indian taste. Then we found Black Pepper Corns, and it was a total game-changer!
Every dish was rich, aromatic, and genuinely Indian — from the spices to the preparation. You can really taste the authenticity and passion in the cooking. Highly recommended for anyone looking for real Indian food on the Isle of Wight!

As a part of our overnight trip, we had the opportunity to have the buffet served by this team. I thought its a must to post a review as the food served as beyond amazing. It was an elaborate menu where we nonveg lovers got to eat 5 different varieties. Th old sad part the food was cold due to the weather but nonetheless it was a lovely treat in a foreign land. All 5 to this tram.

Authentic Indian Gem in Isle of Wight!
After a disappointing experience with so-called “Indian food” in town (which turned out to be just Bengali food under an Indian name), we were so relieved to discover Black Pepper Corns in Newport during our trip to the Isle of Wight.
This little takeaway is a true hidden gem — the only place we’ve found on the island serving genuinely authentic Indian food. What makes it stand out is the range: you’ll find both South Indian and North Indian dishes here, all prepared with the real flavors we’ve been missing.
We tried a couple of curries, some rice dishes, and a mutton biryani — every single dish was cooked beautifully and bursting with authentic taste. The biryani especially was outstanding, rich in flavor and perfectly spiced.
If you’re on the Isle of Wight and craving proper Indian food, skip the tourist traps and head straight to Black Pepper Corns. It’s worth the short trip out of town — you won’t regret it!

We ordered the creamy chicken curry and appam, and both were absolutely spot on. The appams were soft in the centre with perfectly crispy edges, and the chicken was rich, peppery, and cooked to perfection — creamy without being heavy, and bursting with flavour. Highly recommended if you’re craving real South Indian food with a comforting, homemade touch. We’ll definitely be ordering again
