My gf and I went here after the place we originally were going to was closed. I looked on maps for a place close by and decided to go here. We sat a table by the window and before we were even asked what we wanted our feet were cold, it was December and a cold night but still. My gf decided on wings and I chose battered cod. We moved to another table while waiting for the food because our feet were frozen. I have never seen battered fish look like what I got! I asked for tartar sauce and was told they didn’t have any and she should’ve told me when I ordered, and yes, yes she should’ve. The wings looked like they had the same coating as the fish and actually looked like they were cooked in the same oil at the same time. They did have mayo so I got that for the fish. Somehow I ate the whole smaller piece and one small bite of the other one. Without being to mean, it was probably one of the worst things I’ve ever had. I honestly don’t know how anyone would think it was ok to bring that out. My gf said the wings were just ok, I tried one and would agree except the coating tasted like the fish so I didn’t like it. I have reviewed a lot of places and this place was by far the worst, consequently this is the worst review I’ve left. If your looking for a place to eat, I would not recommend going here.

You know those hidden gem’s where the locals go? This is one of them. Out in the country there’s a little bar and grille…the fried mushrooms are delicious. I could eat a basket of those and be fine, but go with friends to share them and leave room for the Friday night’s special Tenderloin Tips. They come cooked to order with mushrooms and bacon. I hear they used to be cooked together with the bacon vs it added at the end, which is probably the only way to make them better. The Old Fashion, sweet, won’t disappoint either. Take your time, visit and enjoy yourself. This isn’t a city spot to be rushed in and out of. Thankful my friends showed me this place

Saturday afternoon and they were closed. Even though Google said they were open, Facebook said they were open. Will never waste my time to see if they are open again oh yeah I had 28 friends with me.

Stumbled on this place completely by accident and I’m glad I did. Food was good and freshly cooked at a great price, owner was friendly and pleasant. I’ll definitely stop in again next time I’m in the area.

Went there last night company had the fish fry I had tips and shrimp. The place was busy. Our server was on top of it! Awesome job. The drinks from the bar, were just as ordered. The food came out hot and as ordered. Plenty of food and extra for the next day. No complaints! Will be back.

Apparently Black Oak is under new ownership or new management, and there are new staff. We used to love coming here for the great atmosphere, great service and the great food. Last two visits within the past month were disappointing. All staff seem to have difficulty communicating with patrons, from getting drink and food orders to keeping customers informed of issues or delays in the kitchen. Our party of 6 waited almost 2 hours for our food order. Our initial drink order was brought, and then our appetizers, but no one checked in with us at all to refresh our drinks. My cousin’s wife had to go to the bar (which only had 2 people sitting at it and there were open tables in the dining area) to get more wine. It would have been nice to get our drinks comped due to the unexplained delay for our food. Too bad about the service, because the food really is great. We’re not planning to return.

Didn’t get a salad with the fish dinner, the sauce for the shrimp came in a little plastic container that looked liked it was used for a previous customer, not sure what it the issue here, but someone with skill needs to buy this place. It’s a gold mine for someone that knows how to run a restaurant!!!!0

Tried this place for a Friday night , it’s just not that place . Please stop serving food and stick to being a bar that has a pizza cooker . In all honesty the food was awful . So just stop in for a drink and a shake of dice and move on . I’m not trying to hurt a small business here , everyone has to start somewhere, just switch directions and focus on a good dive bar with a jukebox .

I attended a birthday party. The staff was attentive. Our menu included fried chicken and tips with bacon and mushrooms, they were both tender and delicious. The chicken was seasoned nicely and had a lot of flavor. The sides were good too. Drinks were priced fairly and done well. Live music was being set up as I was leaving, I would have liked to stayed to listen. I will be going back soon.
