Great little inconspicuous restaurant with a warm and inviting atmosphere. This is one of the most unique restaurants in Texas with simple, rugged, yet classy decor. The whole place is very inviting. We had the Brussels sprouts and focaccia and ricotta as appetizers and both were fantastic. There was a few different choices between pasta dishes and steaks. The menu was simple but well thought out. They had some of the best and most reasonably priced cocktails with both classics and their own renditions of well known drinks, the pear martini was my favorite. I recommend calling or texting at least the day before for a reservation. The bar is open seating and you can walk in but I didn’t see anyone there for the duration of our meal.

Upscale dining experience in small town Texas. A dinner this special is hard to find even in our large cities. The food was delicious and had a chef’s special touch on each plate. The meals were familiar, but not like you’d find in any other steak house. Very impressed.

Headed back from a road trip, a friend recommended Rancho Pizzeria and Black Cur in Coleman as I went through. They have the same owner.

I didn’t think I would have an opportunity to try Black Cur as they don’t open until 5 however, it was 5 when I wrapped up my snack next door so popped over.

It was said I had good timing as reservations are recommended at this quaint, higher end restaurant.

I sat at the bar and started with a dirty martini. I will say, it was not my favorite but not bad.

Bartender and other staff I interacted with were so friendly and professional!!! Answered questions, made recommendations…just really good people who appear to enjoy what they are doing. That was a positive addition to the experience.

I was hoping for the Beef Tartar I had seen on the online menu however they no longer have it.

While sipping my cocktail in this perfectly lit space, admiring the atmosphere and decorations, saw some folks with GIANT biscuits followed by their meal with amazing looking fries. I LOVE fries!

I knew I was not there to ‘finish’ a meal but needed to try some food and wanted something more unique so I ordered the Broken Arrow Nilgai. Its an 8oz Korean-spiced antelope leg filet w/pecan pesto and bread and butter pickle shallots on top. I ordered mine medium rare. Of course I added an order of fries!

Nilgai first….OUTSTANDING! Cooked perfectly and just melts in your mouth! The pesto was not heavy on acid which was great as the shallots balanced everything perfectly! Such an AMAZING dish! Definitely recommend and would order again!

Fries. I was slightly disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, they were definitely good. I happen to prefer my fries natural. I wouldn’t say these were coated however almost like a quick dusting of flour or corn starch to give them an extra crispy bite.

I ended with one final cocktail, simple vodka & soda which was perfect. For those reading this that think you cant mess that up…you certainly can!

If you’re going through Coleman or are like me and will jump in the car and go on an adventure to try great food, make it a point to stop at Black Cur!! You will be delighted you did!

My mother and I had a dinner date and shared some great dishes. We had great service from Alycia and loved the atmosphere. We had Black Pepper Biscuits, RL Bandera Quail, Beeman NY Strip Steak and Wood-fired Broccolini Romesco. Delicious! My favorite dish was the Quail, a must try!

The hype is real…the service was great and the food was truly divine! We shared an app, salad and MASSIVE steak and sides!! The crab cake arancini was the best crab cake I’ve ever tasted. Followed by avocado and hearts of palm salad (that balsamic reduction was PERFECT!) We also shared the 24 oz. Ribeye, Mac and cheese, duck fat potatoes, and roasted carrots.

Nice dim lighting. No rush atmosphere, reservations highly encouraged. Side are shareable. Brussel sprouts and Mac and cheese highly recommend. Carrot cake is also unique and tasteful! We tried the tenderloin, duck, and pork chop. All were great, the duck was not game. The tenderloin was soft enough cut with a butter knife. The pork chop was traditional bone in, lot of meat on there! I would request more peach sauce/jam on it. Wine selection varied, the house merlot was good but ask for the house tempranillo!!!

Price point is that of fine dining but well worth it.

Ohmygoodness! What a gem! We’d been to Rancho Pizza for lunch and decided to give Black Cur a try since it’s right next door. We started with the quail appetizer and it was EXQUISITE! I’ve had quail before but this was the best I’ve ever had. The farro it was served on had the most amazing candied pecans and—we had to speak with the chef—pickled blackberries and currents. The pickled blackberries he said he pickles with red wine vinegar and the cherry juice they get for the bar cherries. Our entire table opted for the 8 Oz Chef cut steak with an aioli sauce. I had the seared pear salad prior to the entree and it was light and flavorful. The extra care and attention shown by the chef, wait staff and manager/owner (?), not only to our table but several others as well, made this an exemplary experience. Well worth every dollar spent.

Delicious dinner with laid back friendly, personal service. I highly recommend the pear martini, the NY strip steak and the chocolate pot de crepe! My husband had the pecan pie bread pudding and it was out of this world, hands down best we’ve had anywhere (and he’s a connoisseur).
