In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. My wife and I were in St. George for the weekend. We went to Black Bear Diner on a Saturday evening for dinner. We have eaten here before for breakfast. The wait was not long. We were seated next to the restroom, which required a request for a different location. That was not a problem, and we were seated next to the windows. They were obviously short staffed, which resulted in a long wait before a server stopped by our table. Our server was very nice, conscientious, and efficient once he came to our table. Our selections were promptly taken, and the food arrived quickly. The portions were plentiful, and the food was good. I did ask for my Tri-Tips to be well done, and they were medium at best. All things considered, this was a good experience and a welcome place for families with children. (We didn’t have kids with us, but there were lots of families)

I absolutely love Black Bear Diner. Over the years, my family and I have dined here in a few different states. When on vacation, we always chose to eat here over the other predictable chains, because we know the quality of food is great, the food options are plentiful, and the portion sizes are satisfying. Speaking of portion sizes… OMG, they are huge. The amount of food you received here is well worth the cost, and you will definitely walk away stuffed and satisfied that you got every bite of your money’s worth. For the kiddos, they definitely have something for even the pickiest of kids. There are also options for vegans, vegetarians, as well as meat lovers.

We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We didn’t wait long to be seated, but it all went downhill from there. It took about fifteen minutes to be greeted, and then another fifteen minutes to get our drinks. We waited almost an hour for our food, and when it finally came, it was incorrect. My family was nearly done with their food by the time they brought out my correct meal. If the kitchen makes an error, that meal should go to the top of the ticket list. I should not have had to wait as long as I did for my correct order to come out. Our server seemed to have a hard time prioritizing, often checking other tables before ours. She forgot several things, and overall didn’t seem to care. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt because she’s pregnant and I understand “pregnancy brain”, but at least have a little pep in your step, girl. The food is nothing to write home about. The gravy had no flavor, the biscuit was extremely dry, and everything else was just average.

We were in town visiting our cousins for the weekend down in St George. We decided to go to black bear diner for brunch! It was super kid friendly! My niece and nephew loved the coloring pages and it was after 11am so they also got free ice cream, i believe. The kids loved all the bear statues! Our waitress was super nice and tended to us! I always get the bears choice with waffle and scrambled eggs! I judge a lot of places by their waffles. Sometimes you can tell if they’re made with love or not and it was definitely made with love! Haha. My fiancé got the taco salad and it was super refreshing and yummy as well!

Food was delicious, quick, and the portions were huge. Service was awesome, and the server was friendly and attentive. I got the ‘grizz’ and would absolutely get it again. Pancakes, bacon, sausage, ham, hashbrowns, and eggs. Well worth the money.

This location is pretty run down and everything was dirty including what we could see of the kitchen and prep area. The staff were friendly but seemed overworked, everyone covering multiple roles. Nevertheless, the food came out quickly and was pretty good.
