In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Our menu offers comfort food classics, and our entire menu is offered all day long. Whether you are craving pancakes at 8 pm or pot roast at 8 am – we’ve got something for everyone. I’ve been to a couple now and by far I think this one is my favorite so far. The atmosphere is pretty much the same but it seemed a little bit more spread out. Even though we got there in the parking lot was full the restaurant didn’t seem crowded or stuffed full of people. More than that the customer service and the staff were very friendly and made the experience even better. The food was as expected pretty good and I would definitely come here again if I was in the area!

The experience began with the host, who was very cordial and got is seated quickly. The server was attentive and explained menu items well. She also didn’t need any promoting to return and check on us or make us wait to receive the check. There is a wait most weekend mornings, but to be expected with a popular place that caters to all.

The service is always extremely SLOW. The food is way OVERPRICED for the poor quality. I attempted to order over medium eggs twice, both times the eggs came back very undercooked (lots of clear slimy components). I’ve given this place lots of chances thinking at least one aspect would be different the next time. Each time, they come up short. Won’t be wasting my money here any more.

This was one of the best Black Bear Diners I’ve eaten at. Very clean and extremely friendly service. Our food was served fast and the coffee was endless. The pies looked like they belonged on a cover of a magazine and the atmosphere was pleasant. I’ve had several chaotic experiences at over crowded diners but this was a cozy experience.

Only loses a star because of our waitress. Friendly enough just missing in action alot. Our group found ourselves looking around like prairie dogs for her lol but her co workers helped pick up the slack. The portions are large and delicious. Nice to see these restaurant chains keep their continuity no matter where your are. Large and spacious location. I love the decor and fun atmosphere.

Came here for st Patrick’s day because it was the only place in town I knew selling St. Patrick specials. I ordered the Reuben sandwich and it was absolutely delicious. Portion sizes were great and I loved it. I also had a server named Ava. Service was top tier. You don’t get good servers like that these days. My drink was never empty, and she constantly checked on my table. She was even kind enough to offer me an additional refill in a togo cup when I was ready to go. I had a brownie sundae for dessert and I can truly say she made it with care. Her service was swift and consistent, and I will now be requesting her section every time I come into eat. Many servers demand tips these days without providing adequate service, but Ava truly earned it. I love black bear diner , one of the best diners in Oakley.
