In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. First time eating at a black bear diner. It was nice and early so o wait to be seated for breakfast. I ordered the eggs benedict and and they were very good. Nice sized portions at a reasonable price. I will be coming back for breakfast. Good job

Way below expectations. Food was tasteless and old. Service was fair to poor. Very expensive (see receipt) for what is delivered. They will not clean the table after the meal. Refills are difficult to obtain. Do not order the Avocado Toast, soggy green spread on a not toasted slice of bread – Awful.

First time visit here for lunch with my brother-in-law. I really liked how friendly we were greeted with big smiles. Atmosphere was great. Loved the menus ( they look like newspapers). Got a kick out of the restaurant’s kudos. Service, food, and prices were excellent…large portions. Highly recommended…thumbs up!

They don’t treat the take out food with as much care as they do when you are sitting in. My last 2 take out orders were over cooked and don’t ask for over medium eggs, you’ll get them nearly raw. They over cook the main dish and all the sides are terribly undercooked. Not done at all. Also, Grits take at least 45 minutes to boil and cook completely. If you don’t have that kind of time, i suggest taking it off the menu altogether. No one wants to crunch on not cooked grits and undone country potatoes. The food here is absolutely disgusting. Over the Christmas holiday, i bought a whole Apple Cobbler from here and it was absolutely horrible. No flavor no taste bland as hell. They obviously didn’t use any butter in it at all, no cinnamon, no nutmeg, vanilla extract nothing! We didn’t even eat it. Went straight into the trash. I live here in town and honestly, just about all the food places in Fernley is disgusting. The staff has always been friendly i can say at the least. Environment is clean and the place is never packed which i like but i can understand why too. The prices aren’t really that cheap for what you get. Portions are okay, but what is that if the food is horrible tasting?! Y’all need to do a gazillion times better on the food. It’s way too expensive to be getting inedible food from you.

The food is good, the staff are very friendly, they keep the coffee coming. The only bad thing is the restaurant is absolutely filthy. I do not think they wipe down the tables, the glass partitions between the tables and the condiment holders are so dirty and the carpet along the walls have really heavy dirt, broken crayons and food piled up. I wonder what the kitchen looks like? Do they have inspections?

We stopped at Black Bear Diner about a week ago, I had to write a review about this place! The first thing I noticed was the atmosphere, cozy, layed back and relaxing. The staff was super friendly! We had a waitress named “Janie Lee” she was absolutely awesome! She was friendly, had a great smile and treated my family and I like we were having dinner at her house. My young daughter made a mess a few times as normal toddlers do. This waitress didn’t hesitate to help clean the mess up with a smile on her face. Even though I was embarrassed she kept smiling and told me not to worry about it! She deserves a raise. The food was delicious. I highly recommend dining here especially if you have kids!

The restaurant is good. As far as gluten, I would not recommend for celiacs. They have gluten free bread, and salads. I do think cross contamination is very possible and likely.

Our server was horrible! Was there at 7:30pm on a Saturday night. The biscuits and gravy was a joke. Had to use knife to cut biscuits because they were so hard and the gravy is packaged white gravy. Scrambled eggs were dried out from sitting under heat lamp. The best part is I have been sick for over 20 hours now. Im a truck driver and having to stop to use bathroom 5 times last night and this morning is detrimental to my career. Over rated and will never step foot in a black bear diner again. Don’t waste your time, money or health !

Are you people allergic to using seasoning on the food? Most bland, gross food I’ve ever had. If you come here make sure you bring your whole seasoning cabinet and some damn hot sauce. Ordered my steak medium rare, granted it was DoorDashed and they put it in a styrofoam box while hot so it cooks more. Okay, HEAR ME OUT. Knowing this as a cook, you should cook it to rare or a little over rare. Knowing the box will heat it and cook it more, hopefully then the customer actually gets it how they ordered it. This isn’t rocket science. Try harder but even then I probably won’t come back.
