In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Our menu offers comfort food classics, and our entire menu is offered all day long. Whether you are craving pancakes at 8 pm or pot roast at 8 am – we’ve got something for everyone. First time here, had breakfast with the work crew before going to the job site.
The staff is amazing, very kind, efficient, patient and professional.
You really get the maximum bang for your buck here. The portions are outstanding. They’re pancakes are the size of large cat iron skillet and pretty thick. The waffles are about the same size.
I really enjoyed this place and will definitely be back. I’d like to try them out for lunch and dinner at some point.

Very impressed with this diner! Breakfast served all day! The menu is huge, so it took awhile to figure out what to get.
The prices were affordable, especially considering the portion size!
The food was delicious! Reminded me of the random truck stop diners I’d get to eat at on road trips with my parents back in Oregon. The servers were great and the wait time from ordering was way shorter then I was expecting especially at the busy hour I ordered.
I most definitely will return!

Since we found the Black Bear diner anytime we come across one we will stop there. We had breakfast. It was enormous and delicious. Our waiter was fantastic. Very helpful. Can’t wait to return to the Black Bear diner.

Ms. Priscilla was AMAZING!!! She was joyful, attentive and absolutely lovely! She was knowledgeable about the mission of the Diner in helping children when we purchase a cup of coffee. The coffee was delicious! The newspaper menu was my favorite! Definitely recommend!

Our waitress, Sharea was a pleasure to talk with. She gave excellent food recommendations. The restaurant was very clean, the juke box was a nice touch, make sure you read the back of the wood log chairs. To top all of that, the food was fantastic! Better come hungry, you’ll leave stuffed!

The burgers here are absolutely delicious. I’ve gone back and forth between the California burger and the Western burger and honestly, the Western is my favorite. I used to come here for the comfort food until I discovered the burgers. The staff here is always super friendly. Always make you feel at home, especially after a long hard day on the road. And there’s nothing better than finishing off with one of the many dessert options. I switch it around but the bread pudding is on another level. Overall, no complaints, just keep up the good work and we’ll definitely see you again.

Wow, what a great place to get a big, filling meal! I got a Bear’s Choice Breakfast with eggs, a huge waffle, chicken sausage, AND 2 biscuits, and my wife got a delicious burger with fantastic French fries that were creamy inside and crispy on the outside. Ask for Priscilla, because she gave EXCELLENT service and went above and beyond to make our experience special.

So in the beginning I was not a fan of this black bear diner what so ever! However they have really stepped up their game on all aspects of Food service/Customer service! Marie was my server and was GREAT! She was on top of all of our drinks, our drinks were never empty! Food was delicious and hot! Definitely will be coming back again!

Me, my wife, and a couple friends met up here last night. We were seated quickly and got our drinks almost immediately. Our waitress Marie came over to introduce herself and let us know she would be right with us she was the only server working. We ordered and received our salads quickly. Our food couldn’t have taken longer than 20 minutes and came out hot and exactly as ordered. Our server was extremely attentive and checked on us throughout our meal. If you are looking for quality service and good food I would recommend checking out this place.
