In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. The server was amazing. Wish I got his name. Lots of cool bear stuff, merch, and photo opportunities. Fun for the family or a date. The ambiance was fun and spot on. I will go again. So much on the menu, I couldn’t decide what to order. The salad was so fresh.

Tonight my husband was craving Meatloaf and of course we went to the closest place in town that we know has delicious meatloaf. We got there and Juan assisted us and from the beginning he was kind and efficient. He sat us and took our drink and food order quickly. He was so kind to get us our drinks and take all the orders around us even though the restaurant seemed short staffed. Our food was delicious, thanks to the chefs. Juan checked on us and everyone around us multiple times and made sure we were satisfied with our food. Thank you for the amazing service Juan.

The grandkids loved their pancake breakfast. I do admit those pancakes are pretty delicious. I love a good patty melt and when I see one on a menu that is usually my go-to item. The one I had today was extremely disappointing. Thin hamburger patty, not enough cheese, not enough onions and it was overdone. My onion rings were delicious though.

I enjoy their breakfast and dinners, great variety and portions are yours to choose. Different portion sizes are offered. The omelets are very satisfying and flavorful. I have had the chicken fried steak as a breakfast and dinner and both were spot on. I recommend that you try it out . The pancake, French toast, pastry selection is large and really appealing. I’ve only had small bites as the sweet factor is high. The people who I’ve been with and ordered one of these selections live them.

Our waitress was Elysia and she was excellent! We weren’t sure what we wanted to eat so she helped us navigate the menu and made excellent suggestions and recommendations! The wait time was short, the atmosphere felt welcoming, the restaurant was clean, the food was great and plentiful and the staff were friendly!

Stopped in this morning to see what the place was like . The first thing I noticed was how clean it was . I had French toast with a side of scrambled eggs !! They were both delicious and perfectly cooked . I highly recommend them for breakfast and would expect lunch /dinner to be just as tasty . Fast , friendly & delicious!

I was excited to try Black Bear. I have never been there, previously. Read some of the reviews and I was excited about going there. Unfortunately, it was a let down. Restaurant 1/2 full but the receptionist sat us at a table where the server was on break. We had no service for 20 minutes. We ordered food took another 30 minutes to come out. I order the grizz. Some of the items on my plate were cold and hard. My wife’s plate was decent. The biscuit and gravy. Although, the server attempted to make up on the bad, more than likely we won’t be back. Too many other like restaurants with better service and food.

Service was excellent. Attentive but not overly. Food was delicious. A good variety on the menu with a few pleasant surprises. I had the open face turkey sandwich, something I haven’t seen in Cali, and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite!

Literally the worst black bear diner out there, I was here around a week ago and it was horrible. My sister got sick and puked afterwards. Ants on the table, and that the toilets had puke in them. After I complained about my sister puking the manager gaslit me, and said “We clean the toilets every day”. I told them the other toilets were filled with puke, of which they said I was lying. I came back with a photo and the manager said, “well I never said there wasn’t puke in the toilet, I just said we cleaned them everyday” I literally had to walk to Vons just to use the toilet because they hadn’t cleaned the puke out of theirs for our entire visit. (Which was over an hour, because they were too busy making fun of customers, in the kitchen but loud enough you could easily hear them in the back, to do their job) My sister puked up their food at the nearby vons, so since the toilet kept flushing I couldnt get a proper photo, only a photo of the puke on the wall.
The server kept insisting that she couldn’t have gotten ill from the burger because “well she finished it”, I came back with the leftover I had in the to go box, and she kept insisting that since she asked us if our meal was okay, therefore she didn’t have to take any form of accountability. It literally took them ages to refund us, and only did because I was crying loud enough that other customers were noticing, (because they were so mean, that I literally felt like I was dealing with a bunch of high-school bullies) and even then they still said they didn’t believe it was their fault. There was literally only one nice person there and it was the hostess. (She was very sweet, so I feel really bad she has to work somewhere like this). I literally have never wrote a negative review of a restaurant before. Please, for the love of God, do better. In the words of Bob “Papa bear” Manley, on the placemat that YOU serve YOUR food on, “We value your business. We want you to feel every time you come in, wherever you are in the country, you are being taken care of.” You failed him. You didn’t even refill my water. You said I was lying about my sister getting ill. You said I was lying about the puke in the toilets.
