In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Ive been here a few times. 2x I dined in. The staff is friendly. The food is mediocre. The very first time me and my daughter ordered pancakes and they were what you’d expect for a pancake. Second time I orded french toast and it was really soggy, don’t recomend. This time and probably will be my last for a bit. I ordered 3 hamburgers for online pickup. 2 with french fries and one with onion rings. The onion rings were on the cold side. Mide you I live a few blocks from the restaurant and don’t believe only my onion rings got cold on the drive home. The burgers were ok. The french fries were a little on the salty side but good.

Great place for a relaxed breakfast. Friendly staff. Accommodating for larger groups but they don’t do formal reservations. Appreciate that they let you come with a large group and pay individually.

Went in with my family for dinner to have a celebration. We have been to black bear many times and have always appreciated the service and the food but this time we had a horrible experience. When we got there our server wasn’t the most talkative but I understand people have bad days. We ordered our food and the food came out speedy quick (thanking the cooks ) when my omelette came out I grabbed the pepper and it immediately spilled out the cap was broken without me realizing such. To the point that my omelette and potatoes were covered in pepper corns making it practically un eatable . When the server came around a few minutes later I explained the situation and asked if I could have it remade. She said “ hold on ” rudely . I was confused because she didn’t say anything on the matter of remaking it she just walked away. I chose to wait around because I didn’t want to eat the omelette and get charged twice if I were to get one remade. Finally it came back but the omelette had mushrooms . When I originally ordered the omelette I said I didn’t want mushrooms in it. I was upset at this point. By this point we were packing everything up we had some in our party who could’ve had eaten the mushroom omelette. Around this time the server manager came out and asked what she could do which i appreciate . I told her I would like it remade the way I originally ordered . We waited some more and my omelette finally came out with no mushrooms to which I was pleased. As I was packing that up in the to go box the same server manager came and asked me if I could hand her the omelette with mushrooms as she needed to throw it away. To which at this point after this whole experience I was frustrated with. But I completely obliged. As we were leaving our original server came out acting completely clueless to the situation and said “she was happy we came in tonight” In a tone that was condescending especially with our service we had gotten from her. As we were leaving we told it was upsetting that we had to give back the omelette that was messed up in exchange for the original omelette I ordered after we had already boxed it up. As we were leaving she told us “be nice to your servers” again in a condescending tone. This entire experience was disheartening and disappointing. Especially with the way we were treated by our server. With the slamming down the plates and manner of sarcasm, condescending comments. We will not be coming back

Holy cow, the portions here are HUGE! I got 3 full meals out of one order of food. I brought my leftovers home and had 2 more meals. Our food was hot and amazing, and our service was over the top. My only complaint is $3.99 for a cup of black coffee. Come on now, that’s Starbucks prices at a diner. We will be back, but i will bring my Yeti cup in with my coffee because that was a rip-off.

Well this was a downer to try this black bear. We have tried them in different states and the food has always been good and plenty of it. I felt like my wife was being profiled here as she had a big issue with our waiter which I noticed. He spilled water on her and would not come to touch the table. The one on entertainment dr is always AWESOME so we will stick with that one.

Took a bit of time to get my food but when it came, it was excellent. Sometimes when you ask for a cheeseburger with a gluten-free bun, most restaurants assume that you also mean taste free and condiment free. This thing had tomatoes, onions, lettuce, sauce, and a bunch of other stuff. It was really delicious.

First time visiting Black Bear Diner and it was outstanding. They lived up to their mission statement. Our food was freshly prepared and came out hot! The portions exceeded what most places serve and yes, we took some home! And Andrea was awesome, providing excellent and friendly service! Very reasonably priced and a great menu to choose from. When we visit again, we will definitely return!!

Came here for an early Sunday dinner while in Boise. There was plenty of parking, probably due to the time we went. We were seated very shortly after entering, and our waitress was quick to get us our drinks. The place had a welcoming atmosphere, and everyone seemed friendly. I had the country fried steak with mashed potatoes/ gravy, and broccoli. My meal also came with a salad which was okay. My wife had the turkey club sandwich with French fries. Both meals were very good, and the portions were adequate. Prices were reasonable. I would recommend coming here for a good meal if you’re ever in Boise.

Food is delicious, service is great. You really cant ask for or expect much more. We love coming to this Black Bear Diner. It’s becoming a tradition. Atmosphere is very relaxed and you dont feel rushed. The only suggestion I’d make is updating/upgrading the merchandise area. Just seems a little lacking and Black Bear Diner branding and merch could easy be a big seller if done right. My wife and I love BBD branding but when we go in, the merch available just isnt enticing enough. The Papa Bear sauce we bought IS DELICIOUS THOUGH. Goes great on everything.
