In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Come hungry, because the portions are ‘bear-sized’! The Bob’s Big Bear Burger was fantastic, and those Blueberry Pancakes were a total game-changer—massive and packed with flavor. What made the experience even better was the super friendly service. It’s rare to find such a perfect combo of great food and great people. Highly recommend!

Great experience every time I’ve been here. Today had the Bigfoot with eggs over medium and hash browns. Meal was cooked perfectly. Coffee was good. Water tastes like water, not chlorine or sulfur. Cesar was my server. Never had less than half a cup of coffee or water. Definitely recommend.

Came in for the first time and the waitress Ebony gave me some recommendations. I ended up choosing the taco salad, see pics. I want to say Ebony was very friendly, helpful and attentive. The taco salad was huge!!!…much more than any one person should ever be able to eat. With high food prices in California I would say this meal provided more food than you could buy on your own at a store. I chose to top it with bacon ranch dressing, sour cream and salsa. I will be back to this place every time I pass thru.

Found this restaurant on our pit stop in Barstow, going home from Las Vegas, looking for lunch and to sit in to eat. We got seated quickly and our server was knowledgeable and friendly. Our food came out in a reasonable time and it was great tasting. Every one with me enjoyed their meal. The onion rings were delicious and crisp to perfection. I like that they offer smaller portion meals as well and their menu selection is stupendous. I’ve been waiting to eat at this restaurant for quite some time now because I’ve been waiting for the grand opening of one at my hometown for a while now. So glad I came across this one and finally tasted their food and saw their menu. Thumbs up!

As a truck driver I used my ultra one points to receive my meal. It was actually my birthday meal.. 1st time eating from this restaurant.. The young woman upfront was slammed. She kept her composure and got through it. My food was absolutely amazing. Potroast dinner, side salad, grits w cheese, and cornbread. Very pleased. I highly recommend this place. Ty FOH, BOH, management, and owners. Having a good meal is vital. I slept like a baby afterwards.. i will return.. Next time I need 2 pieces of cornbread.

The food at Black Bear Diner in Barstow, CA was excellent as always it brought me right back to my days in Northern California, remembering meals in Shasta. The service was awesome too, and I truly appreciated the warm atmosphere.
That said, I was a little disappointed when checking out. As a Veteran who served my country, I was told only those in uniform receive a military discount. While I respect policy, it was disheartening to feel like my service wasn’t recognized. A small gesture of appreciation for Veterans would go a long way.

Today we were able to have Breakfast at Black Bear Diner in Barstow, Our first time at that location. We had great food, and our waitress was very kind, professional and attentive. Hopefully whenever we are on the 15 freeway and pass Barstow we could stop again and dine at this location.

Friendly, kind, food was prepared in a aesthetically pleasing manner. Food is a bit pricey. But over all happy with the outcome. Nicely diced vegetables and seasoned meat of your choice.
