Because it was Thanksgiving, most restaurants were closed, so we went to Black Bear Dinner. This restaurant has a great atmosphere. The staff is friendly and lively. The slow-cooked meat was delicious. Think of it as typical American home cooking. The menu pictured is the gravy biscuit and slow-roasted prime rib. I highly recommend it and would definitely visit again. The parking lot is spacious and has plenty of seating.

This is a great place to get some home made tasting, country food which is on the healthy side (less preservatives). Recommend the Country Fried Steak with Gravy, the Chili, and the White Cheddar Mac & Cheese. Service (Anthony) when we were there was very fast, friendly and helpful. Great deserts are made here as well.

We only found out after extensively traveling all over California in the next couple of weeks that this is in fact part of a large restaurant chain. Look for one in your home town.

Food is great, prices are decent, and servings are absolutely massive. Be prepared to eat a lot or take home leftovers! The “side” of biscuits and gravy was two of the biggest biscuits I’ve ever seen. Probably six normal biscuits.

Y’all, I visited this place while I was in town from Alabama and it was amazing. Everybody from servers to management made me feel like I was walking into grandmas house. They were funny and so sweet. Every person that came in was seemingly a regular as well and they treated them the same as they treated me, like family. The food was SO good as well. We got a “tossed salad” (I hope the lady that tossed my salad for me sees this) a chicken club if I remember correctly and salmon and ended with an apple cobbler. I wish I could transplant this location into Alabama cause I’d be there frequently. Anyways. I’ll be back next time I visit Sacramento. Love you guys long time!

At first I didn’t want to post this review but after hearing of other people’s experiences being discriminated against elsewhere (not at this restaurant but at others) I decided to write about my experience last year at this restaurant.

I was driving down from Nevada and stopped by black bear diner on my way back home with my companion. There was a wait and it look a little bit but wasn’t too bad. When it was our turn a server led us to our table. They didn’t really welcome us or greet us, or even introduce themselves. Something felt off. As an Asian person in a mostly homogenous town I felt a bit out of place but kept an open mind and didn’t think too much of their lack of passion. It’s easy to notice that’s you’re the only person who is different especially if you’re not from these parts.

But it was the time it took to get our food that made me realize it wasn’t just apathy. We didn’t order anything complicated: a sandwich with fried and chicken with fries. Unfortunately, it took over half an hour to arrive. Meanwhile the table next to us sat down later than us, got their food first, and left before us. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, but thinking back on it, it was clear that we weren’t welcomed and there was definitely some discrimination going on. Maybe it was me being Asian, maybe they thought we were gay, who knows.

At least the server (maybe it was another one, I don’t remember) finally noticed at the end, to give credit where it’s due, she did provide decent service once were got our food. I wish I had realized earlier about the racism and discrimination. I ended up tipping well in the end, which I regret doing. This will be a lesson for me to showed up when something feels off. As a native Californian I was dismayed when I came to this realization. But it goes to show how different each part of the state is.

We stopped here for breakfast while we were waiting for the pass to clear and were so glad we did. The food was wonderful and the service provided by Rudy was exceptional. She treated us like family and the entire restaurant was warm and welcoming. We are already excited to go back!

We arrived here again . I had the chicken fried steak with potatoes and biscuits and gravy. My son had the bacon avocado Benedict.
Super warm and big helpings .
Great food.
But the carpets looked dirty though. With bits of paper food and a variety of debris.

Also our services wasn’t the most attentive.
We had to wait a bit too long before any of the lady’s asked if we’ve been helped dispite 4 ladies walking back and forth in front of us .
And had to wait a while for the check.
Usually it’s much better but the food carried it

Tasty food and good coffee ☕️ when I got it, not the best service but it was fine. Will be back, Carol really enjoyed her breakfast bowl, it was huge she took 3/4 of it home. I had the breakfast combination with the three meats, ham bacon sausage eggs made to Order, hash browns and two huge pancakes , thanks D , the boss bought us all Christmas gifts for working hard. Great Gift Card !

My family and I love to eat at black bear diner. First time to this location, the wait time wasn’t too bad, the service was great and the food was delicious. The food was served warm/hot, fresh off the skillet. Our server was kind and she made sure we were doing well several times before, during, and after we received our meals. The kids ordered the kids’ burger and fries, the breakfast sandwich was nice and crunchy. My husband loved the eggs Benedict. The orange juice mimosas were delicious. Made out of freshly squeezed oranges.

The kids menu comes with a complimentary sundae or freshly cut strawberries with whipped cream and sprinkles.

Loved our experience here and all the bear memorabilia! Such a cutesy diner and the staff give it a warm diner feel. They were so friendly and prices were reasonable. We also had lovely bear company outside our window seat so cute .
