Bitter End is such a perfect late-night hangout, especially for midnight owls or a group of friends who just want to meet up for coffee and good conversation. One of the biggest plus points is that it’s open 24/7, which is amazing because most places in Grand Rapids close by 11.
We tried a hot white chocolate mocha and a cold mocha both were a bit too sweet for our taste, but still enjoyable. Their croissants, though, are my absolute favorite, and the staff are incredibly sweet and friendly.
Overall, this is my top go-to spot to hang out with friends after midnight. Highly recommend for late-night coffee vibes! ✨

I started going here in the early 2000s!
I recently brought my daughter and her friend here and it was exactly how I remembered it. The barista was friendly and the drinks were yummy! There were lots of people there! It was great! The old ceiling is my favorite ❤️❤️ Make sure you look up at it

Omggg!!! The QUEEN who was so informative and helpful was soo kind and sweet. I didn’t catch her name sadly. She has beautiful black curly hair. Anyways this was my first time at Bitter End Coffee House and she helped guide me through what I wanted. As a barista, we know! I work at another coffee shop. Thank you for all your help. I hope she sees this! My drink is amazing!! Quick service. Amazing service at that!!! Far better than our coffee shop. Slay queen, I’ll definitely be back. The place is also so cute!

Used to come here all the time to get a coffee and play card games. Fun drinks with a cool vibe. Moved to Chicago but decided to stop by while I was visiting. My partner went to order a drink while I used the bathroom but the barista refused to let me use the bathroom until I bought a drink as well. A few minutes later another man came in, went straight to the bathroom, and the barista had no problem with it. So that ruined the vibe for us, very unfortunate. But other than that one bad apple the service is great.

Anna is seriously one of the best baristas in the greater GR area. Everyone here is awesome in general. My daughter and I come to play uno by ourselves and with a friend and I have 0 complaints.

Google really did something with this one! I took a chance on this cozy little coffee house after it popped up as a suggestion, and I’m so glad I did. The vibe is calm, intimate, and just right — like stepping into a warm hug with caffeine.

My coffees for my sister and I was smooth and perfectly balanced (not too sweet, not too bitter), and the pastry selection was giving hidden gem. The staff made me feel welcome like I’d been coming for years, even though it was my first time.

Definitely one of those spots where you can journal, meet a friend, or just vibe out and people-watch. I’ll be back — and next time I’m bringing a book and staying a while or play chess.

I love it here! Very good coffee and I love that it’s an old bank! They have some books and games available. Great place for college students and friends looking for a fun atmosphere to visit. It does get pretty noisy so I usually only do admin work as phone calls are hard to hear.

Bitter End is severely understaffed. Baristas work very efficiently but there are so many customers for one person to make drinks for. Today I was at the end of a line of about 20 people waiting for coffee drinks. Our barista was cheerful and fast but there’s only so many drinks that one person can make when customers are caffeine starved and needing to get back on the road.

Yeah, today on 2/15/2026. The team that was Working.. Was moving like the 2008 Detroit Lions.

It took me 20 minutes just to get a cup of coffee that I didn’t even have them make. I just wanted one of the Premade roasters. The crew there passed the counter multiple times not even acknowledging us.They were just working on restocking and went one track mind focusing on some guys super complex coffee order. Acting like they weren’t flooded.

I like this place. I’ve been here many time but Damn I did not enjoy getting coffee here Today.

I was excited to find a 24 hour source of proper coffee, though nervous about a night shift decline in quality. I was worried for no reason though. Excellent service, especially considering I typically visit between 1am and 5am. Night shift staff are helpful with finding you a drink you’ll enjoy, and skilled at crafting the drinks expertly and quickly.
Highly recommend visiting
