What a fantastic experience! One of the best restaurants we have tried in Edinburgh. Everything we had was so delicious and the service was so friendly.
We tried the meat and fish platters and a separate monkfish dish – we were so impressed by the combination of flavours. They even make their own bread fresh every day.
I totally recommend this place!

If you haven’t been to Bistro Coco, you are missing out on the best meal of your life, and this is coming from the pickiest eater. I have been a loyal customer every time I came down to Edinburgh, even if I’m here for only a couple of hours. It’s always a local must-visit for us.
I love everything about what Max and Charlie have built with Bistro Coco: the atmosphere, the décor, the drink pairings, the lovely staff, the generosity, and first and foremost the food taste, which is out of this world!
Who even cares what pretentious reviewers say? Just go in and try the food! At the end of the day that’s all that matters.
Everyone can LLM their way around a fancy-worded review, but few can craft a meal like Max and the team. The best review is when you can’t even get up from the chair after finishing, and you’d still somehow eat more.
So if you truly want to have a good time and a great meal, look no further: just visit the lovely Bistro Coco and try anything on the menu, you will not be disappointed!

Thia is by far the best French restaurant we have been to in Edinburgh. Firstly the restaurant is small, but there are not too many tables that you feel cramped. There is French music playing which adds to the atmosphere and it is not too loud. The staff are very friendly, welcoming, attentive and explained every dish to us when it was served. And the food, wow, absolutely amazing. The ‘french onion soup’ was moreish and delicious. The lamb rack was moist, tender, well seasoned and paired with a tasty sauce. The venison dish was perfectly cooked and seasoned, with delicious potato dauphnoise. The chocolate hazelnut dessert is decadent but balanced, and not too sweet. The meat/seafood platters look amazing too so we will definitely come back to try this. We booked a table so definitely recommend others to do the same.

First time dining here and wasn’t disappointed! Beautiful small restaurant, the food is devine, the staff are welcoming and friendly. When they serve your food, they explain the dishes. We did the set lunch, highly recommend.

I rarely write a review but this is highly-deserved. We went here last night (Saturday). – We were walking past. It looked very cosy. Bistro Coco was ‘outstanding’ for food, service and ambience. We both had warm fennel bread with butter for complimentary starters – delicious, and the scent of the warm bread with melting, succulent butter was lovely. Then unexpectedly, we were served amouse bouche – a nice surprise – absolutely delightful – full of flavour. – We could have easily eaten dozens of these beef / filo pastry canapes. We wanted to ask for more … but didn’t … For mains, we both had Venison, with cranberry sauce, and Dauphenois potatoes, cooked to perfection and very tender – very tasty indeed.
The Special was Chateaubriand – we were very tempted – next time!! 🙂 …
I must highly commend Bistro Coco. We have visited restaurants far and wide in Scotland, being natives, but this restaurant beats them all hands-down for service and food.- Bistro Coco sets an exemplary example for other restaurants to follow, but personally, it is ‘unmatched’ in our 4 decades of foodie travel. Very Well Done Chef, and the same to the admirable, delightful, helpful, warm, attentive and happy Serving Staff!! Much Love, X.

Popped in on a Sunday afternoon. Great service from Laura, very professional and explained each dish as it was served. I had their take on French onion soup and a really hearty Algerian lamb dish for the main. Can’t fault any of it, flavours were excellent and portion sizes generous. Keep doing what you’re doing guys!

Food was absolutely delicious, portions were good and service was excellent. The only reason I’m only doing 4 stars for atmosphere is because it got raucous due to a table being really loud, which one will immediately notice in a cosy place.
I will definitely be returning.

An incredible meal in this gem of a neighbourhood restaurant. The food really is as wonderful as everyone says it is: from the home made bread to the huge plates of beautifully cooked fish everything we ate was delicious and an absolute bargain given the quality. The service was immaculate and charming, and the atmosphere informal, unpretentious and welcoming. From the first mouthful of our starter we were already discussing when we could come back. An absolute delight.
