This place is great. I am reading other reviews and people are saying that is expensive to eat her. Coming from a New Yorker, I think is inexpensive for the beauty of the place and the food you get.
We ordered a cheese board ($22), fried pickles ($10) from appetizers and a Greek salad (large for $12). Everything was delicious. The cheese board has 5-6 high quality cheeses, jam, honey and pickles. There was also grapes, blueberries and a strawberry.
I never had fried pickles before and I will definitely eat them again. Greek salad was great with feta, olives, tomatoes and a tasty lemon orange vinaigrette.
We also had a glass of muscadine sweet red and rose. The wine was sweet and easy to drink.
We also had banana pudding and autumn orchard dessert. Both delicious.
If we are ever back to this part of the country, we will be back here.

For the past four years we have been bringing our Daughter here for her birthday during Christmas PER her request. The first year the food was wonderful, second year was pretty good, third year terrible now this year Dec 2025 terrible!!!! There is only three entrées, nothing for someone who doesn’t eat meat. I can promise you they don’t care to fix vegetarian meals without meat. They have no pasta dishes, no butternut squash gnocchi, like they had the first year, which was wonderful!! The flatbread was mainly just bread and loaded with goat cheese and arugula nothing else!!!! Three people in our party had tuna tacos and they said there was barely any tuna and it was terrible! We had to wait for over an hour for our food. For what the prices are you expect more too. Again if it weren’t for our Daughter requesting to come here for her birthday we would not be coming here. Very sad! Bistro at Childress please do better!!!! I’ve asked you guys this for at least three years now by my reviews, emails and even calling to complain and nothing yet!!!!!!

Used to be wonderful before they moved into their new building. My advice is if you’re looking for an overpriced, snack size plate where you’ll have to wait an hour for your food, this is your place. You’ll only get a 2×2 cut of Salmon should you order the $20 petite salmon. My other half was literally sitting on the plate next to me who ordered the same thing. Say what??? Mediocre service at best, limited mimosa options and you’ll get charged a whopping $3 for a mini muffin should you want some bread while you wait. Oh, reservations are required with a $15 deposit. Are you even kidding me??? So many better options out there…don’t drive to Lexington for this. There – I’ve warned ya!

Let’s start with the best that is our server Ireland M. Attentive welcoming tried to make suggestions. All in all she is a 4+ server.
Second the atmosphere. Place is pretty very manicured exterior and interior. The building and grounds are top notch. Not a single miss. The tables and chairs are definitely showing wear. Need some attention.
Third the food. This should be why one comes back. Not so sure that mission was accomplished…
Crab cake appetizer was under cooked – mushy in the middle quite disappointing.
Drinks top notch- mimosa and a punch bowl were very good.
Spouse had a chicken salad with fruits and a muffin. Absolutely amazing. The burger and fancy waffle fries was nothing like previous pictures. Fries were over cooked and greasy burger was dry.
For the price I expected better, to be wowed… I was not.

A detailed review of the food, service, and setting. We have been here several times, and the setting is excellent, but the menu has some excellent dishes and some misses. Also, this is a moderately expensive place, and some things are better value than others.
Let’s start with the sandwiches. They sound a bit better than they are. They all come with a side, which is nice, but for a $20ish sandwich, I’d expect a bit more creative toppings. There is nothing spectacular about them, but the price tag feels like they should be.
We have always been fairly impressed with the appetizers though. We had the pimento cheese dip with the pork rinds, which was unusual. I make my own pimento cheese, so I was a little bit worried about it, but it was quite tasty. Some of the pork rinds were hard, but most of them were fine.
Soup is always good. We had the tomato chevre recently, and it was excellent! The cheese and fig dip was excellent as well. They do a great job with appetizers, and, like I said, we have been several times. The ahi tuna wontons are very good as well. The bang bang shrimp tacos are also good. Basically, it’s the sandwiches that seem to be a little less than creative.
I was also not super impressed with the wedge salad. It comes in a beautiful bowl, but it just has a simple ranch dressing. It would be nice if they had a more interesting dressing with it, since a wedge salad is usually rather plain.
One of our servers was fabulous and recommended to my vegetarian daughter that she could make one of the sandwiches (that was full of meat) into a vegetarian option, and it worked out really well!
One of the servers also let us know that that the croissants on one of the sandwiches were not very fluffy, and my husband tried it anyway, and sure enough, it was not great. So the croissants could use a bit of an improvement.
I was a little dismayed that they charged extra for some aïoli, for the club sandwich, because for heavens sake, it’s an $18 sandwich, so if I wanted a little extra aioli, I should’ve just received it.
Sitting outside is just glorious! And, of course, they have all of their wine offerings and champagne offerings.
The servers seem to be in good spirits. Each time.
Sitting inside in the winter is also lovely, because it’s a beautiful setting as well. And one time they had a peppermint champagne drink (pictured) that was a real treat. And if a fire is going in the fireplace, then that is just even more spectacular.
So five stars for the setting, five stars for the appetizers and 3.5 stars for the sandwiches. Let’s get a little more creative on the sandwiches! Maybe some local bread, or more toppings, and at a minimum, if I want a little extra aïoli on the sandwich, I shouldn’t be charged for it.

Shame this place is hyped up so much around this area. How to start.. we got there (14 of us) at 2:00. Waitress started out great. The appetizers came out in about 20-25 minutes. There was a fan blowing over us that was cold, and no waitress there knew anything about turning it down like the rest were. After about another 20 minutes everyone at our table had empty glasses. I asked a young lady which of the pitchers sitting in the window was sweet tea. She flippantly told me “I have no idea” and walked off. I was going to fill the glasses up-not an issue. I ended up having to ask another waitress for some refills. An HOUR later the food came out. And the waitress was about to cry. I guess someone said something to her and crawled her butt about our complaints. Oh, no one came to help her out. Just hurt her feelings and had her crying at work. Terrible management in my opinion. The bistro closes at 4:00. We stayed until 5:00 to finish our meal. I got the breakfast platter. The biscuits and gravy were dry too-sitting for a long time under a heat lamp. The ham was so dry and tough I left it. The eggs and bacon was all that was really worth eating. Three hours for a lunch at a bistro that is overhyped and overpriced is ridiculous. I asked for a manager, no one came. There is nowhere to really get a response from someone at the vineyard, so I’m posting here. We will never be going back there again. Shame on you Richard Childress.

A friend invited me to Bistro at Childress for lunch. Her and her husband have gone several times. Food was good. Our server forgot about us. We waited for over 30 minutes after asking for our check. We had to go to the wine bar to wait another 15 minutes to pay. I don’t know if I’ll go back until the rating is higher. My friend did say this was the first time that she’s experienced a waiter that forgot to come back.

We arrived and were greeted right away. They could not locate our online reservation but seated us as it was not busy. Apparently they were closing early that day. Service was good and food was excellent. Dinig room could use some sound dampening. I recommend the sweet potato fries. We’ll be back.

I have been coming to the Bistro for years. The food is always very good, the prices seem reasonable to me, and the service is always great. Today I had the spring salmon, which was wonderful! My friend had Austin’s fried chicken sandwich, which he thoroughly enjoyed. We split the tiramasu dessert, which was great also. The highlight of the meal was Gabi, our server. I am not sure if I was more impressed with her service or her vivacious personality.
We will definitely be back.

We came in and were greeted by jasmine and mahogany who were lovely and took us to our table. Bryli was our server and she was very attentive to our every need. Sarah came and checked on us to make sure everything was going good. 10/10 experience.
