Me and my group really enjoyed this restaurant. We got the Yeshekla Tibs (top and bottom) which were a table favorite and Geba Weta (middle) which was also very delicious. Others in our group thankfully got a plate with collard greens to balance the meat, so all-in-all the meal was delicious. The staff was nice and fast relative to how insanely busy it was. The restaurant was very nice on the inside, almost like fine dining with a track for your purse and everything. The parking and facade outside does leave you wanting, but no where near a deal breaker. Wonderful place I’m sure to go to again.

Birndo Restaurant and Bar is easily one of the best places in the DMV for Ethiopian food, especially if you love raw meat dishes like tere siga, along with excellent tibs, kitfo, and a wide variety of other traditional Ethiopian meals. The flavors are authentic, well-seasoned, and consistently high quality.

While the restaurant is on the pricier side, and weekends often come with a 10–20 minute wait (sometimes a bit longer) to get a table, both the wait and the prices are absolutely worth it for the quality of food and overall experience. The staff are friendly and welcoming, adding to the warm atmosphere. If you’re looking for top-tier Ethiopian cuisine in the DMV, Birndo is definitely a place to visit.

I had never been to Birndo before, even though I’d always wanted to try it since it’s known as a popular Ethiopian restaurant in the DMV area. Unfortunately, my first visit a few weeks ago with friends was disappointing. The service felt unprofessional, with servers not even once checking on us after the food was served and taking a long time to bring the bill once we were finished. As for the food, the tibs were overly oily, and the kikil had very few pieces of meat, which made the overall experience even more underwhelming.

Amazing food and great service! The place has a warm, welcoming atmosphere, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Prices are fair for the quality, and the whole experience was smooth from start to finish. Definitely coming back soon! ➡️ Alulla- really appreciate your service also thank you for looking out for us.

Hands down, this is the best Tere Siga in town! While it’s on the pricier side and you definitely need to order ahead, the quality makes it worth it. The service is top-notch with a very well-trained staff. Also, a huge plus: I finally found an Ethiopian restaurant with a truly clean bathroom!

I had high hopes because a few Uber drivers recommended this place. I’m not Ethiopian but I am a big fan and have been to dozens of Ethiopian restaurants in DC.

I ordered the Birndo Combo because it was the most expensive item and I wrongly assumed it would have everything. It was just beef, how boring. They have another combo that is only veggies, but no option for both meat and veggies.

The beef was overcooked and greasy, tough and chewy. The kitfo (raw beef) barely had any flavor and it’s is usually the most flavorful dish on the platter. None of it was good and I’m still picking it out of my teeth.

They barely give you any injera and the injera they have falls apart when you try to pick up the food, so you can’t grab bigger handfuls to make the injera last the whole meal. Also there is no injera under the meats and it would probably fall apart if there were because of how weak it is. They charged me for a second order of injera when I took the rest to go. We didn’t stop eating because we were full, we stopped because there was no more injera.

Ethiopian restaurants usually have excellent service and very friendly people and this place really falls short there too. Most of the staff was standing awkwardly in a line against the wall like they were part of a police lineup. The waitress also packed the sauce in the bottom of the to-go back, instead of inside of the box so it spilled everywhere.

I’ve visited this restaurant several times, and I can honestly say I have never experienced service this terrible anywhere else. Yes, the restaurant is usually packed, and normally that would mean people like both the food and the service. But in this case, it seems the crowd is there only for the food, not the experience.

I usually order just one dish that I like, so I can’t speak for the entire menu, but many Ethiopians seem to come here simply because they enjoy the food and don’t care about the service. Unfortunately, the service here is completely unacceptable. Even when the restaurant is full, there is zero organization, zero management, and zero customer care.

From the owner to the waiters, it feels like no one cares. Orders are ignored, there’s no teamwork, and no sense of responsibility. It’s not that the staff is overwhelmed—it’s that there is no system, no leadership, and no effort. It honestly feels like a group of people just standing around, not a real restaurant team.

I’ve given this place multiple chances, hoping it would improve, but it never does. This is by far the worst service I’ve ever experienced, and it completely ruins the dining experience, no matter how busy or popular the place is.

I was in town for work and my cousin that lives in the area swore up and down that this is the best Ethiopian restaurant around. When we got there on Valentines evening, place was packed! Wait was over an hour, and our host Edilawit (great service) called us as soon as bar seats opened up…Waited quite a while for the meal(a star down for that), but meat combo was fire! Combo comes with kitfo (ethiopian beef tartar), gored-gored (cubed rare beef), Gomen be’siga (collard greens and beef) and tibs (stir fried beef) Yum!!! Meat eaters dream. I was doing a little dance in my seat after each bite. I didn’t care for the gored-gored, but the other three were best I’ve had in a long time. What made the whole experience even more enjoyable was feeling like I was truly in Ethiopia with all the Ethiopian patrons there (99%), this is also how one knows if a restaurant is truly authentic;-)
Can’t wait to go back!
Service was okay. I can tell they were great, just too busy to tend to everyone in timely manner.
I will come back:-)
