We had the fortune of visiting Bird’s one night when Cap Video was presenting a movie, it was magical, great food, great drinks good prices awesome staff! Loved everything there. Out waitress (sadly I cannot remember her name) young blonde, super professional girl. My wife and I loved every second there!

In the mood for grouper so found this place. The reviews were quite good so decided to venture in and try them out. It was very hard to keep my focus on the meal looking around and seeing filth and previous patrons leftovers. Air conditioning dripping all over you and the tables. Don’t look thru the pass into the kitchen, you can see all the filth back there too. Obviously inspections haven’t happened here in some time.

The grouper sandwich was cooked well, could have been hit with some seasoning and salt. Shrimp was pretty bland. Not entirely sure what people are really thinking when they do these reviews. Maybe it is the drinks that get them, but the atmosphere and food are definitely not worthy of good regards.

A Memorable Lunch at Bird’s Aphrodisiac Oyster Shack

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Bird’s Aphrodisiac Oyster Shack with my son, and it was an experience worth sharing. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our server, Megan, was exceptional—attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu.

We decided to indulge in a seafood feast, and every dish exceeded our expectations. The grouper sandwich was incredibly fresh and flavorful, the baked oysters were cooked to perfection, topped with cheddar cheese, bacon, and garlic, and the fried shrimp were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

Not only was the food outstanding, but the service truly elevated our dining experience. Megan ensured that we had everything we needed and made excellent recommendations.

If you’re in the area and craving some top-notch seafood, I strongly recommend stopping by Bird’s Aphrodisiac Oyster Shack. We’ll definitely be returning!

They are no longer serving oysters. They were out of 2 of the beers ordered, they were out of 2 of the items on the menu to eat additionally. The server was great and it wasn’t her fault. She handled it well.

I was hopeful because it looks like a dive bar that serves oysters. Those are usually the best.

I didn’t rate the food because I ended up not ordering food. After 5 failed attempts, I was kind of finished.

Bird’s Aphrodisiac Oyster Shack is one of those places that perfectly fits the phrase “don’t judge a book by its cover.” It’s a true dive in every sense of the word small, quirky, loud, a little rough around the edges but it has built a loyal following for good reason. If you appreciate character, strong local vibes, and food that consistently punches above its weight, Bird’s is worth the stop.

Let’s start with the food, because that’s what keeps people coming back. The oysters are the star of the show—raw, baked, broiled, or dressed up with toppings. When they’re available (which isn’t always guaranteed), they’re typically fresh, plump, and flavorful, sourced from places like Louisiana or Virginia. Many regulars swear they’re some of the best oysters in town. The baked versions with garlic, cheese, jalapeño, or bacon are especially popular and packed with flavor.

Surprisingly, the burgers rival the oysters in reputation. Massive, thick patties cooked to order, customizable toppings, and a juicy, satisfying bite make these some of the most talked-about burgers in Tallahassee. They’re undeniably big almost comically so and while that’s a positive for most people, a few diners may find them a bit overwhelming. Still, when done right, they’re absolutely excellent.

Other menu highlights include the grouper sandwich, which is frequently praised for being fresh, flaky, and well-seasoned, along with solid fried shrimp, onion rings, fries, mahi-mahi dip, and fritters. While not everything is made from scratch and quality can vary slightly, the overall value and flavor are strong for a casual spot.

The atmosphere is classic dive-bar charm. It’s weird in the best way decorated with mismatched signs, college memorabilia, and an anything-goes personality. There’s karaoke, trivia, comedy nights, and a crowd that ranges from college students to long-time locals. The bar crowd is friendly, social, and unapologetically itself. If you’re looking for polished or upscale, this isn’t i but if you want authentic, this place delivers.

Service is generally friendly and laid-back, though not always perfectly consistent. Many servers and bartenders are attentive and personable, but during busy times, waits for drinks or checks can happen. It’s more “go with the flow” than fine dining, which fits the vibe but may frustrate those expecting tighter service.

Where Bird’s loses a star is mostly due to inconsistency and upkeep. The building, bathrooms, and overall cleanliness can feel rundown at times, and some guests have noted issues like lingering smells, clutter, or leftover dishes.

Availability can also be unpredictable especially oysters, so it’s possible to walk in craving them and find they’re out. Pricing on certain items (like beer pours) has also been a point of frustration for a few customers.

Bottom line:
Bird’s Aphrodisiac Oyster Shack is a Tallahassee institution—a gritty, lovable dive with fantastic oysters, legendary burgers, and a lively local scene. It’s not perfect, it’s not polished, and it’s not for everyone but if you embrace the chaos and go for the food and atmosphere, you’ll likely leave happy. Come hungry, keep expectations realistic, and enjoy one of the most uniquely local spots in town.

Been here a million times but I guess they don’t train the incoming staff the same way. Im waiting in line for the bathroom when a staff member grace comes and tries to cut the line. I tell them no you can’t and am met with abrasion. All good. I go to the bathroom and continue my night. I wait for a drink at the bar from grace and she chooses not to serve me. The woman next to me asks for a drink and I piggy back off that and im told to leave because I will not be served. At this point the bartender has been loud enough some customer are starting to get involved and I begin to get pushed. I tell the new contact to stop touching me but it is no a full physical item. I eventually get escorted out by Wyatt and customers before anyone even gets my side. Ive come here for YEARS and its hilarious to know how they accosted customers just because a staff member felt entitled to the bathroom. Get portapotties if yall feel like that!!

Birds is a true hole in the wall restaurant. The business has clearly been there for years. But don’t let that fool you. Like any true hole in the wall, the food is amazing and the staff is incredible. Everything I have ordered so far has been absolutely delicious! The staff is super friendly and enjoyable to be around. Birds is a true gem and clearly a locals favorite haunt.

Surprisingly good!!

On a game day when every other restaurant was packed, we walked into Bird’s which had several tables available. That got us slightly nervous.

But we were in for such a treat!! Though not a huge selection on the menu, each of our dish was cooked to perfection and so delicious!! We enjoyed the food, the mimosas and had a wonderful time.

Good selection of beer as well.

We’ll revisit if we’re back in Tallahassee.

It’s a small bar, but the people in there are super cool and very friendly. It’s a little bit on the weird side, but we all are a little weird on the inside. Love this place. P.S please don’t forget to try the oysters.

Quirky local joint. Had a blast. Excellent oysters. Today’s batch was out of Louisiana. A bit pricy but still delicious. Fried shrimp from the freezers but still good. Awesome fries. Dont know what was in the Bird Sauce but i want to. Yummy. Half a dozen beers on tap and a fridge full with dozens more. Great variety. Mixed drinks were better than I’ve had in a while. Not fancy but the LIIT was worthwhile. I had two. Quirky decor. Indoor and outdoor seating. Good music. Most importantly, a wonderful and welcoming staff.
