Good Lord what a tourist trap. Not that that’s all bad, I loved the giant rocking chairs and the generally welcoming atmosphere. But you gotta eat sometime, and that would not be a reason to come to this restaurant. Prime rib? That’s what I had, and it was unlike any other I have had. Thin, imbued with gristle, unpleasant. I was drained of motivation to finish it, which I did not do. At least it was better than shoe leather. The mountain oysters I was hoping would present a textural and gastronomical challenge, but alas, there was so much breading it could have been deep fried nuggets of meatloaf and I would not have been able to tell. The carrot cake was a solid 2.5 out of 5. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I came because it’s an iconic eatery. But marketing can only take one so far. At some point, the taste buds will rebel.

Stopped at The Big Texan because you have to, stayed because Texas doesn’t believe in small portions or quiet dining. The steak was the size of a spare tire, the vibe was pure roadside legend, and the staff treats overeating like a competitive sport. If you leave hungry, you’re doing it wrong. Amarillo isn’t complete without this stop.

This place has THE best steak I have ever had…and I’ve had a lot of steak. the servers seem to think of everything so that southern hospitality is really felt. The aesthetic is a fun ol’ country western vibe and kind of feels like a comical movie set or a theme park. The beer is GOOD, they are doing it right (ordered the Rattlesnake IPA ). And the dinner rolls…don’t get me started on those; they are hot, sweet, and tender, I could make a meal of em. Honestly on first glance I would’ve passed this place up as I’m not a fan of the aesthetic (though it is well done for those who are) but a family member recommended this place and after trying it i will ALWAYS ALWAYS stop here for a damn good steak dinner. Chefs kiss.

Man ooohh man!!! I tried the 72 ounce challenge and although I failed, I had lots of fun doing it. The vibe, the people , everything was just perfect.

Ps: I’ll be back to try it again sometime in the future now that I know what to expect hahaha.

I tasted a few beers and settled on the Pecan Porter. Interesting place but mostly a tourist trap. Decent food but Brisket was dry.

After decades of traveling by this Texas icon finally made the stop. Busy and bustling, but excellent staff wrangling the crowds.
Best seat was at the bar where Taylor kept the mug full and carried on good banter with the patrons.
Rattlesnake IPA was really tasty without much bite. Generally try to avoid rattlers, but enjoyed these.
Steak was average at best. Sides were good.
Big pavilion out back if you want to get away from the crowds and meet the bar kitties.
More tourist attraction than steakhouse…been there, done that – but Taylor made the visit worthwhile.

Always a great meal here at the Big Texan. The steak was cooked perfect. The potato needed another few minutes to cook but i kinda like mine a little more done than most people.

The big Texan is definitely the best steak restaurant of the country, I have been all over the country and there is no restaurant like this, everything here is amazing, and the beer is at a new level. Definitely recommend.

Per usual, I am allllll about customer service, granted that food/product is important, but, there’s nothing like the human interaction of a smiling face and an “OMG, you too” moment.
Perhaps that’s why AI scares me.
The exterior and interior environment along with the ambiance of The Big Texan itself is the prelude to a ‘never miss kiss’ of excellence.
I sat in the bar/lounge section, my server “RANCE” approached my solo table with the best smile and happy vibe, first impressions are always hard to flip, but, this young cowboy knows what true server/customer interactions are made of.
Prompt, efficient, attentive and moreso when I shared my embarrassment of having a steak that i could not cut with my one hand, talk about gracious! If he were a keychain, he’d be in my pocket! Period!
Thank you, RANCE… you ARE the cat, the meow, the bag of chips and the aisle they come from!
To the manager of the Big Texan, I applaud you for hiring ALL the best of the best!
