Extremely cheap food. You definitely get what you pay for though. They are known for the greasy burger and they weren’t kidding. It was super greasy! I also tried the chili dog and the fries (all for under $3) and it was good for the price. It is self seating so you go in and find an empty table. A waiter will come to you with a menu. You may leave feeling a little queasy but that’s just part of the cheap cafe experience! We went here since we wanted to try the oldest restaurant in HSV. It was good and had unreal prices but we probably won’t be back.

What used to be a hole in the wall is now it’s on stand alone restaurant up and front. I never got to go when they were hidden, but something about restaurants coming to the light sometimes is good or bad for business what used to be a local secret is now seen by frequent travelers.
Our first time there and the service was real cool dude has been there for a while you can tell he greeted his regulars made suggestions and just really enjoyed his southern hospitality. Enjoyed hearing him talking about golf bets and just making the people feel welcome!
Food was cool I really wish my biscuit and gravy was sausage biscuits and gravy but I have yet to figure out who has what I am looking for. Suggestions please let me know, my omelette was awesome I love the fact it was thin eggs and you had a wonderful egg to ingredients on the inside sometimes there is more egg than filling.
Atmosphere it was decent reminds me of one of those diners you can pop up and get your coffee and a good conversation nothing wow me but will be going back to check out their lunch menu options.

It’s been awhile since a restaurant experience impressed me enough to inspire me to leave a review, but here I am!
The service with a smile was very refreshing, I really felt like I was in a small town diner.
I had a Bologna sandwich and a hot dog and both were likely among the best I’ve ever had.
The biggest surprise was perhaps the check at the end. A sandwich, hot dog and a Pepsi for just 10 bucks! I think that would be hard to beat at most fast food places these days.
I really enjoyed my experience there and I will for sure be back to try more of the menu, and I’m going to bring the rest of my family too!
5 stars! Highest recommendation!

Big Spring Cafe is the real deal. Their little cheeseburgers are absolutely awesome—packed with flavor and always hit the spot. I’m also a big fan of their chili, which is just as good. It’s the kind of place where you can grab breakfast or lunch anytime they’re open, and everything feels like classic comfort food done right. Definitely worth a visit.

Been wanting to try the “home of the greasy burger” for some time. Finally got a chance since I’m home today (they’re only open M-F 6-3)… not what I was expecting. About $6 for the double cheeseburger which isn’t bad but it’s about the size of the dollar menu burgers in fast food. (See picture.) The folks were fine but the burger was very disappointing.

Great food with unbeatable prices and great service. Their grilled cheese is better than Melt Huntsville because they take the time to grill both sides of the bread. I was surprised a family of 3 ate with drinks for under $20 when everywhere else we’ve been spending $50-60 and just getting water with our food. Will be returning.

This place is a part of history in my life. Burgers and the onion rings are good. People are so nice and friendly. Prices are a lot higher now then back in the day, but that is no difference from every other place these days.

It felt a bit weird in there. Almost like a retirement spot. Had a depressing vibe. My waitress was new but she was very sweet and on point with our service. I was a bit thrown off with how they charge for gravy on your country fried steak. Every place I have been to the gravy COMES with the steak. That’s what makes it COUNTRY, or so I thought. I really hope my waitress finds another job because that place is too gloomy for her.

This place reminds me of an old school diner. It’s really busy for lunch and parking can get a bit tricky. It is very quick and the food is nice and hot. Our server was really cool.

I wanted to eat here for a couple of reasons – one it is the oldest restaurant in Huntsville (est. 1922) and other reviewers raved about it. We were there on a Monday morning and had no wait to sit. A friendly and attentive waiter and delicious food. If you have time, it beats any hotel breakfast! Menu is as of July 18, 2022.
